Adding another wing to the Jazz

Would you make this trade for a decent wing player?

We need Okur's scoring and 3 point shot off the bench. And we need his depth at the center position. Millsap should only play about 28-32 minutes per game so he stays fresh all year. Okur when healthy should play about 24-28 minutes per game.

Lets figure out what Okur brings to our team first. If we start losing and Okur is playing well than we should make a trade but until than lets figure out how he fits into the scheme of things.

I personally would rather take Kirk Hinrich over Stephen Jackson. He is younger and only has 2 years left on his deal. He is a good defender and he shoots better from the outside than Jackson does. Hinrich is a Sloan type player but honestly I would rather have Okur if he fits properly off the bench and I think he will.

Okur will be our weapon that people forget about going into games. People won't be game planning for him. He boxes out better than Elson also so our rebounding will improve when he comes back.

Stephen Jackson's Wiki

I had this guy on a fantasy team when he was with the spurs. Gave some good games.. but he gets a bad rap for the Detroit Incident.

He's kinda like Raja Bell.. Not afraid of anyone, and can bring the nasty when provoked. But do we need another one of those?

Then again, with two nasty wings, why not?

I think something to keep in my mind if we do make a trade once memo is back we will almost certainly reduce our luxury tax bill. Martin makes more and jackson is close. Believe we would try to trade for more like a five million dollar man. Would have to be with a team under the cap though.

REP Giving for the smartest comment of the thread. The Jazz want to unload salary not get equal back or even add it.

Crunch time. Six minutes left to go in the WCF Game 5 with the series tied 2 - 2. The winning team takes control of the series.

Who are the five guys the Jazz put on the floor to close out the game?

I think tonight's game is a prime example of why The Jazz need Memo - the second unit needs a post presence more than the team needs another wing. The Jazz second unit got outscored in the second quarter tonight because they couldn't work the ball inside and had to settle for too many jumpers.

Yeah, Memo makes his living from the outside; but he can bring it inside as well when he wants to and can play with his back to the basket. The second unit is already deadly on defense - they can be deadly on offense if opposing team has to worry about the paint as well.

Okur doesn't make a big enough impact to make the difference that you are talking about. But I do agree we do need some sort of inside presence.

I think this problem can be fixed with proper subs. I think taking Millsap out at the 6 minute mark or Al Jefferson. Than bring one of them back in with the scrubs.
IMO Sloan is a great coach but this is one thing that I think he could improve on. I personally don't like playing all 5 starters all together than playing close to all 5 scrubs together. I think subs should be more frequent and allow for a smoother transition. Rather than a drastic change. It kind of kills game chemistry and momentum.
Putting Okur at the 6 minute mark in the first quarter taking out either Millsap or Jefferson would improve the team I think. Hopefully Sloan changes his rotations a little bit.

I'll take a healthy, active AK over anybody in the league. Big Ifs, but in shortened playoff rotations with AK, Raja, Miles, and Price, I'm happy. We get so much more out of Deron and the frontcourt that scoring at the wings is less important. Not unimportant, just less important, especially if we get the defense they've been bringing.

I'm all for a trade involving Tomic and CJ. Miles is way too inconsistent. And he just keeps chucking. Bell can't play for more than 25 mins/per and we know Honzward is not ready for prime time. Jazz need a wing.

I've been an avowed AK hater, but I wouldn't trade him right now unless someone was willing to give up A LOT to get his expiring deal.

Who do you expect to be able to get for CJ and Tomic? Deshawn Stevenson?

Those would be two pieces to a trade. Obviously, there might have to be more involved. For example, something can be structured so you actually use the Harpring exception to trade for a player making $6M and give up some combination of CJ, Tomic, Honzward or a future pick for scrubs. So the other team gets value and some tax/cap relief; Jazz get a legit starter or 6th man.
