What's new

After watching some of the NCAA tourney...

It is very clear to me that the NBA is rigged in some way shape or form...

Yeah, I know guys get hammered and it's pretty much jungle ball out there, but I have noticed that they call it that way consistently BOTH WAYS!! That's all I care about... Fine, if you're going to let guys get hammered then call it both ways, I'm fine with that...

I'm seriously thinking about making a complete shift from the NBA to the NCAA because these refs let the PLAYERS decide the outcome and it's very refreshing...

What do you guys think??

I guess I can agree on calling it both ways but I was thinking how terrible the officiating has been in the tourney. The number of fouls called by officials who are completely out of position and have no way to see what they are calling has been amazing.

I understand your sentiment, but rigged is a strong word. Read Tim Magonaghy's book - he says it isn't rigged, or "fixed," but it is definitely influenced. That's how he was able to be so successful betting on games (once he knew the names of the refs on a particular game).

College ball is really fun because the players decide the games and there are no "superstars."
but I love the NBA because you get to know the players so well and the relationship you have with the team can be so deep. Jazz fans LOVE John Stockton. He really can do no wrong. 'Cause he's a stud. So anyway, it's hard to say goodbye to the NBA. It's David Stern I hate.

whoops. ...yeah, who is Tim Magonaghy?

I thought that didn't look right, but didn't care to double check the name.

"Thank you for correcting my english which stinks!" -- who knows what movie this is from?

The NBA has a bit of a WWE feel to it. The refs DO influence the game, and it isn't simply a matter of subtracting two points here adding two points there. The way they officiate sets the tone of the game and players know they can guard everyone one way except for those few special players who are "unguardable" for a reason and the reason is that what's legal against everyone else is not legal against them. What I hate the most is when the official waits to see if the ball goes in and when it doesn't he calls the foul. It's almost as if the official is saying "the only way Kobe would have missed that is if you fouled him."

Anyway I'm tired and I'm rambling. What I originally posted this for was to ask if there's any possibility that David Stern will step down in the next 5 years or so? I really want to know what legit pro ball is like.

Fair enough.

I have said it before and I'll say it again. When everybody knows before hand that the officials cheat in favor of certain players then the game is not fair. The league is the worst officiated league I am aware of. When a confirmed cheater was rated as one of your best officials then you have a problem. However instead of dealing with this problem the league chose to bury it.

Watching the NCAA tournament is much more enjoyable than watching any NBA game. And it is mostly due to the officiating. If the Jazz are not involved I rarely watch NBA games. But I have enjoyed a lot of basketball the last few days. Even the games where I have no routing interest are watchable and that can not be said for the NBA.

That's the NCAA tourney I've been watching as well. I hate the way charges are called in the NCAA especially.

The NCAA has and always will be more enjoyable to watch. There are way too many iffy referee calls in the big leagues. Gambling and homer-ism. Greedy ********.

Loved the Buttler Pitt game: they called two fouls in the last 1.5 seconds of a 1 point game! If it is a foul, it is a foul. 47.9 minutes left or 0.5 seconds left.

Why can't the NBA figure this out? One thing we all want to see when we watch sports is a fair "fight". No favoratism, no swallowing the whistle. Mistakes will be made and we can all handle honest mistakes.

Actually it's a bit disturbing how many games in the tournament have been decided by the refs.

Most of the ones I have seen were the correct call though. At least the ones they made a big deal about on ESPN. When watching the replay's they looked like the official got it correct. How often can you say that in the NBA?

Trading Places!

One of my all time favorites.

"Beef jerkey time!'

Tyler Zeller agrees. The NCAA games have been completely fair.

In the NBA they let silly things like size and athleticism effect the outcome of games.

What about the 5 second call in the Arizona vs. Texas game. Replay shows he hadn't hit 5 seconds before he was calling timeout. That gave the ball back to Arizona and the win.

And I disagree. That last call was horrendous. Any good official would swallow their whistle and let the teams go to OT rather than call a ticky-tack reach in at that point.

I just don't get the case that a foul isn't a foul. The officiating has been the best part of the tourney so far.
