AK - Do we want him back?

I'm sure this has been discussed in a current thread or two, but I thought it might deserve its own. We probably need 1 more wing, so he's definitely an option.

Here's my $.02: I think in the short term it makes us dramatically better. Locke was talking about this today and was saying if we did do it we would basically be replacing Howard/Miles/Raja with Mo and AK, which is a huge improvement and makes us significantly better.

The flipside to that is it will take away minutes from two of our young guys - Hayward/Burks. Burks probably suffers more, but if Ty could figure out the minutes and have those 3 guys get the bulk of the minutes at the 2/3 (with Carroll and Mo probably dipping into those minutes a little bit), then I think it could work.

Also, if I were KOC I'd ask Greg if I could give him 2-3 years, but really frontload it (something like $9M, $4M, $3M) and tell him, "hey, we'll dip into the luxury tax this year, but it's our last year before the punitive luxury tax kicks in, and next year we'd still have roughly $40MM in cap space".

I still like AK. I wouldn't touch him for anything about 6 million a year for a max of three years. He would start as SF and play some back up minutes at PF. All of this is contingent upon Jefferson or Millsap (hopefully not) being moved.

Frontloading to that extent was not possible under the old CBA. Is that something that got changed?>

AK did very well last season in Europe. I watched a couple of games. He dominated actually (game iq, steals, help on defense) and became the mvp of euroleague. And he's in shape.

I think he can play 3 more years at this level.

AK is probably better than any SF we have, but I still don't want him back. It's time to move on Utah.

Agreed. He had some great years and then some injury-riddled mediocre years. I like AK, but I don't think there's a place for him on the Jazz any more.

At the right price, a no-brainer. Would make it easier to move Big Al, as well, instead of Millsap, which almost everyone wants. This is because AK allows more freedom for Millsap offensively and more overall defensive flexibility, especially on the Pick n Roll, in which Big Al is constantly getting beat.

I had no idea, but I guess that makes sense. I think the max amount of cap space that I'd want to see him eat up going into next year would be $5MM (as seen in my OP, I could care less how much he eats this year), so maybe 2 years at $12 ($7MM, $5MM). Lord knows (and more importantly AK knows) that we drastically overpaid him last time, so I'd hope he'd do us a solid.

Under these circumstances I'd gladly welcome him back.

Yeah, we also took Mo back. Moving forward also involves getting better. This is AK without Jerry and DWill, both of which were impediments to his role with the "old" Jazz. AK makes us better, at least so far as the team is currently constituted.

I respect your difference of opinion.

Jazz payroll right now is over 60 mil. My guess is their target payroll is in the low 50's.

I wouldn't count on The Jazz signing anyone until they get rid of some salary first.

Mo wasn't a part of the last Jazz group though. He was on the team for his rookie year, that's it. He is still relatively fresh to the Jazz.

But if we could get a SF comparable to AK, then it probably would be better, going forward. But who could that be? All of the players mentioned in the other thread are almost out of the realm of possibility.

Here are the other wings that Locke mentioned we could go after:

Rashard Lewis
Delfino
Pietrus
Brandon Rush
Webster
Korver

Others mentioned in the media are:

Roger (how, u?) Mason
Danny Green

AK's the best of the bunch, and the only other one I could excited about would probably be Korver.

Edit: I would also endorse Rush
