AK for Harrington?

How about AK to NY for Harrington S&T, Curry's expiring, a pick and cash.

First off, Eddy Curry's useless; hopefully he can later be bought out for less.

Now, AK will make 17.8; Curry's in for 11.3. The difference of 6.5 can be offered to Harrington as starting salary. This trumps the 5.8 MLE (i.e. Dallas again) ever so slightly but perhaps enough to swing it in the Jazz's favor, without overpaying much.

After trading for Jefferson, the Jazz are at about the tax level and trading salaries is probably the only way to add other players like a 6-9 scoring SF, sometime PF, in Harrington.

For NY, AK has long been considered a good fit for D'Antoni's system. But while NY will likely balk at absorbing him for the full 17.8, they essentially get AK at 6.5 as they get rid of Curry's contract. They're reportedly packaging Wilson Chandler to get rid of Curry but the Jazz should instead take a 1st rounder (it will have protection this time). For the Millers' sake, NY should also send the 3M max cash to help buy out Curry.

Harrington's offense vs AK's defense. Thoughts?

New York has already said they arent bringing Harrington back, Utah isnt going to Give up AK until the deadline.

Best way to get Harrington is a straight up sign

Don't think so. As has been pointed out by others and as I also noted above, the Jazz are at about the luxury tax level when they used the Boozer TPE to absorb Jefferson. That now makes using the MLE on Harrington, or even Matthews, probably a no-go for the FO and owners.

if MLE is not enough. Get his previous team to do an S&T fgr Harp's 6.5M TPE. then they can offer a little more than Dallas and that team gets a TPE.

NYK renounced its rights to Harrington for cap space. So a S&T is a no-go.

AK is a better player anyhow.

Where'd you get that? AFAIK, teams don't renounce player rights until they have to (the moment they're signing/absorbing players). For example, Miami still have Bird rights on Haslem; they didn't have to renounce him to get cap space for their Big Three. Or NY itself still had the rights to Lee to do a S&T with GS.

From the horse's mouth. They renounced him on the 9th.

If AK was making 10 million dollars next year, the idea that Harrington is better than AK would be laughed off the board. And I like Harrington. AK is a really good player who makes way too much. Harrington is a good player hoping for the MLE.

Interesting idea, jimmyjazz. But I think AK is pretty valuable right now to the Jazz.

1. He starts at SF allowing CJ to start at SG (if Matthews is not re-signed). Also allows Hayward to develop until at least the deadline. No need to rush Gordon into the starting lineup. Let him get experience and succeed against backups before he steps up to the next level.

2. AK backs up Millsap at PF. Harrington could also do this, but if AK STARTS at SF, he has no problem playing with the 2nd unit when Paul rests.

3. If Okur returns close to 100% by the deadline, our bigs are solid: Jefferson, Okur, Millsap play the majority of minutes. Fesenko could also get some time as our only big "thug" inside.

4. I'd rather see AK dealt for a very good starting wing. That gives us a lineup in 2 years of:

Deron/(Anyone besides Price or Gaines, please)
"TBD"/CJ
Hayward/CJ
Jefferson/Okur/
Millsap/Jefferson/Okur

That's the core 8. And hopefully we could also pick up a good 6th man. Maybe a combo guard would be a good fit. Play 10-13 mins behind Deron, then 7-10 mins at SG. Technically we have 2 combo guards right now in Gaines and Price; they love to "Shoot," but they're not very good at the "Point" aspect.

Damn. Worth a thought. And though I like AK. I think Harrington's toughness is something this Jazz team could really use. I wouldn't mind having them both. That's why I hoped that they could do the S & T and not lose AK.

Deron/Price or Brown
CJ/Hayward
AK/Harrington
Millsap/Harrington/AK
Jefferson/Okur/Fess

I think that's a respectable rotation. But it would be an expensive one until AK's deal is up.

FWIW I'd rather have Mike Miller if he is really not decided yet.
