Al Jefferson Appreciation Thread

Al is a great teammate. In fact I fear how some players will react if we don't resign him. Would that have an affect on Kanter resigning? Something to think about.

it'd impact on what we could pay him, that's for sure. he's a big man, he had the same happen with memo. he knows it's a business.

also, kanter's injury will heal up well before next season. i wouldn't think his injury would impact on them re-signing al.

Al is a class act, and I appreciate everything he has done for the organization.
But....time to part ways. He will get a big pay day somewhere....and good for him. He deserves it. He just needs to be on a team that can mask his weaknesses. I think he would be a good fit in San Antonio. Pop would get the most out of him.
However, he might haunt us in that situation....but I wish him nothing but the best.

a safe bet who's wage would limit our capacity to sign the kids when their time comes. they pretty much know how far al can get us. do they want to settle for that? why is it "betting the franchise" on enes' shoulder when there are loads of other factors that will impact on how this team ends up? if we give the reigns to the kids and enes has an injury-effected season, then we potentially get a high pick in a reportedly great draft. i guess it's a matter of ambition vs being conservative... or something.

Al is a great dude. Always a class act.

He is a excellent scorer.

He is horrible at defense, One of the worse big man defenders in the league. He is a horrible offensive player. He can score, but since he is a selfish black hole he sucks the life out of the team with not getting them involved. So overall his offense sucks.

Unfortunately we have a coach with the iq of a bag of hammers that can only see Al for a scorer, and not the overall horrible offensive and defensive player Al really is.

Im sure Big Al is a great guy off the court, but he sucks in the court. He doesnt know basketball game, he has great physical advantage and ability to score, however he doesn't have the brain to maximize his skill set, (its not because of our team or the coach, he will never fulfill his talents because he has no intelligence) and he is the worst big defender i have seen after Boozer. Thus he is not worth paying $15 million a year and blocking the future paths of Favors and Kanter.
I will really appreciate this appreciation thread if Big Al leaves.

Think like a new GM who must prove his worth to the CEO. His goal is to put a better team on the floor next year than what he inherited from KOC. Once again, the Jazz's biggest need is a point guard and a dependable 2. That is where our new GM will focus his effort. He knows he needs another big to go with Kanter and Favors, so he will play it safe and resign either Millsap or Al -- I think Kanter's injury and Al's performance down the stretch tips the scale in Al's favor. There are way to many unknowns for the front office to gamble on getting a high lottery pick in 2014. But I've been wrong before.

Al would be a good fit on a team that has great defenders around him. Utah doesn't have that. I loved Al's attitude. And from all reports, he went out of his way to help Kanter and Favors improve their offensive skills. I HOPE Jefferson is offered a boatload of money by another team: 1) because he's a great guy; 2) because that makes a counter offer by Utah unlikely.

But Lindsey is also a belieber in advanced stats. What won't go unnoticed is the fact the Al's name appears on all the lists of the Jazz' worst combinations. We HAVE dependable SG's in Burks and Hayward: Corbin just didn't play Alec. I think Utah will find a SF in free agency and look to trade Marvin mid-season as an expiring contract. So the draft should bring a PG and backup big. Also, if neither Millsap nor Al are re-signed, the Jazz can afford a couple of good FA's...or offer a team some real nice salary relief for an established veteran.

ok. i hear all that. i just don't feel enes' injury is severe enough to be a concern beyond this season. i'm sure lindsey and KOC will explore all the options, but i feel like the mediocrity-fatigued jazz fans are expressing and the media are increasingly voicing may push the jazz to make some tougher, more long-term decisions. i love al, i just don't see him as a complimentary or affordable third big given we're going to have to pay the young bucks big(ish) bucks.

having said that enes' injury will probably dog him for the rest of his career and it'll be my fault for the jinxies.
