Al Jefferson for Rudy Gay

Can someone exactly tell me why Rudy isn't a superstar? Is it because he plays for a small market or because he doesn't chuck up shots like Rose?

Never averaging more than 20 points, 6 rebounds, while playing average defense, and having your team play better without you isn't exactly screaming SUPERSTAR to me.

Take Gay off Memphis's team, and they go from the lottery to a huge win streak and playoff run.
Take Rose off Chicago's team, and they go from playing in the ECF to drafting in the top 5.

Rose is a superstar.
Gay is an overrated player paid superstar money.

Just like AK...

You take Westbrook off OKC, they would have probably won the WCF. If Chicago had another scorer and you take Rose and replace him with a pass first PG they could have beat the Heat. Gay is a scorer and if you noticed Memphis has a lot of scorers. Conley, Mayo, Xavier Henry, Z Bo, and Sam Young that could easily replace Gay.

Do the Jazz have any scorers? No. We have an inconsistent Miles and Harris, Hayward who showed signs that he could be good, Favors is more of a defensive player.

Jefferson is our man offensive player but with the addition of Kanter (a primarily offensive player) he becomes expendable.

Now if you did your homework and compared Gay with Durant. He out performs him in almost every single category except points and like 1 extra rebound. If Gay took the same amount of shots as Durant, he would be averaging 25+.

Gay is extremely underrated and he definitely deserves a max contract. He may not be the flashiest scorer like Rose or Westbrook but he sure can shoot way better than both of them.

I actually like Rudy Gay a lot. I would actually do that deal b/c we need a SF and Gay is a pretty good shooter. He can defend, rebound, shoot, create and is very very athletic. He may not be worth the max but he is definitely better than AK. A wing future of Hayward, Burks, Gay and maybe a guy from the 2012 draft and you're looking at a very bright future.

If he only had 2 years left on his contract like Al then I would consider it, but he's not a franchise player - and when you pay non-franchise players franchise-player money, you get in trouble.

I really don't know why people want to get rid of Jefferson so badly. Like I said in a previous post, 20/10 guys don't grow on trees. Is his salary a bit much? Yes. But think of its value in 2012. For those that don't want him on the team, his contract will still be valuable in 1 1/2 years around the trade deadline. But, in the meantime, Jefferson will continue to be productive and will provide crucial veteran leadership on a young team that sorely needs it. Think how invaluable that can be with the young bigs especially. I say keep him around for as long as he's producing and providing leadership.

Memphis wouldn't do that as they have Randolph and will likely resign Gasol. Plus, i think they want to see just how good their team can be with a healthy Gay.

i too would prefer to trade Jefferson over Millsap (Al's has more value & Paul is perfect coming off the bench) but Gay has a scary MAX contract!!
Jefferson for Granger makes sense on so many levels...

Harris / Hayward / Granger / Favors / Memo(Kanter)
Collison / Hill / George / Jefferson / Hibbert

His 20/10 does not seem to lead to wins. He gets his, others don't get theirs. It seemed like when he was really hot, scoring over 30 for several games, the Jazz were getting killed. So hell yeah, with our current stable of bigs, I would trade the Black Hole for Rudy.

I would consider it only after details of the new CBA are known. You may end up after this trade in situation when you will be unable to resign Favors and Hayward when they are off their rookie deals in couple of years. If it's not the case then I'm absolutley OK with this trade.

I think most ppl are correct..I am not much of a Gay kind of guy as he is a real good player but not great.. with the max contract i say no way!!! AK and Ostertag ring a bell?

Agreed. He may be a 20/10 guy but he gives up 30+ on the defensive end with all of his gambling and lack of movement. Al needs to go before Millsap.
