What's new

Alec Burks STILL not NBA ready?

I thought it was pretty obvious that Burks went to Orlando to give him time and see how he did at the point. Plus I think a lot of times players who are probably too good to play in SL, will sometimes play a game or two and that's it. That's kind of what I thought Alec would do.

Lance Stephenson last year. And like Alec, he dominated. I think we'll all be happy if Burks's results replicate Stephenson's.

Edit: meant this to apply to the question of how many 3rd year players go to SL.

How many third year players do you know of that play in the summer league?
Deron did didn't he? It seems he did but only a game or 2. It can't hurt to play in it. Especially if they think he needs a little work to convert to a PG more often and learn the offense.

It is Evans' 4th year. Interesting stat. His total minutes played in a season has gone down every year he's been in the league.

I don't recall, but that seems way more pointless than sending Burks there. SL competition sucks so I don't see what Burks will possibly gain by dominating D-League cast offs.

Jeremy Evans is a different story, as he's basically a D-League cast off with an NBA contract.

Wow good on ya frank.... I'm shocked that you would say something about alec burks that sounds a bit like a compliment.
I thought you would think he is only as good as a d-league scrub by reading your thoughts on burks in your past posts.
Maybe you are finally coming around

Lots of benefits for Alec being there that extend beyond his game on the floor.

-Developing chemistry with the other Burk(e)
-Helping coaches with teaching the system.
-Being a model for the team culture and character they're trying to build.
-Working on specific additions to his game that he's been working on with player development coaches (e.g. tightening his 3 pt shot, etc.)
-Allowing the coaching staff to test some new offensive schemes with Burke/Burks synergies.

Deron wanted to work with the new players. At that point, his attitude was actually pretty positive and the Jazz were involving him in some FA evaluations. Evans is fighting for minutes. Does he get time at the 4 behind Favors or do the Jazz go with an alternate plan? AS for Alec, I think the plan was to let him play some with Trey, but also to work him at PG when Trey rested. If Alec can be a combo guard, the Jazz may not pursue a backup point. They can just bring back Tinsley as the 3rd - or Neto if he gets clearance - and set the roster.

Burks is extremely talented!! He is also very comfortable down the stretch, able to score easily. He is better at this than some seasoned veterans.

Didn't the Jazz ask CJ Miles to play in the Summer League at year three? Seems to me the Jazz have a history of asking young, inconsistent wings to play in the summer league. There's no evidence to support that Burks is doing something negative, or has done something negative.. just that he needs to play through it to calm his nerves.

I just think some Jazz fans like to bitch even when there is nothing to complain about. Take this article. I don't know how you get a coach wanting his players to get more comfortable as he is not an NBA player. Then some fans turn it into a Corbin bashing moment. It is summer league and most of our young players are not ready, they are a work in progress, talented but inexperience. Yes this is part the organizations fault, the coaches and even the players. Again people are going to have to have patience especially this season. There is a lot of new guys and they haven't development chemistry yet because they haven't played with each other.

Burks coming down whether it was his decision or the coaching staff is a good thing because he gets to play both SG/PG and gets time to learn how to play with Burke. I don't think it is a reflection of his talent but how he has been used by the team. I personally think Burks will have a big season if he finally gets to play even though his mistakes. I just think people need to calm down with all the complaining and focus on what guys need to improve on and how well they are playing. It is game two of summer league. Man I don't know how some of you don't have ulcers.

Glad a few people asked how anyone could draw that same conclusion, although I question if Franklin actually believes what he typed and was just trying to get a reaction.

The strongest "Lindsey is tanking 2014" sign of the offseason is Corbin coming back for the upcoming season.

Let's say we strike gold and DO pick top 3 next season. Who wouldn't want this coaching job? Bring Sloan back and get Stockton and Malone on staff...get these guys the ring they've always deserved.

If the coaches say Burks needs work then he needs work. People need to stop with the damn Corbin bashing. He's our coach. ****ing get used to it or find a new team. The dead horse ain't gettin any deader.
