No they are hated for sure because of perceived stereotypes and punk *** players like Westbrook hyping that type of narrative literally every time they play against the Jazz.

I think he cares what fans think. He's made it known he feels slighted. It's not just coaches he's worried about, he wants to be and should be recognized by the fans for being dominant. If he were in LA he would be the most talked about defender of all time.

I don't care
Gobert cares about being an all Star though. Fans have the ability to effect who becomes an all star. So since like you said gobert knows he isn't popular, it would make sense that gobert cares about the dumbass fact that dumbass fans effect the chances of him being an all Star.

In conclusion, who cares? Gobert cares.

Unless I'm missing something relatively new, the fan voting only affects the starters. The coaches vote for the reserves.
 
NBA should end the All star game. It moved beyond meaningless into the realm of absurdity. It is has become a caricature* of itself.

Duh. But the fans having a say means that there are less spots up for grabs for the players that make the team without the fans vote.
Less spots up for grabs means less odds of getting a spot..
