Alex Kennedy: Clippers & Pacers were interested in Millsap, Jazz discussed Granger for Millsap/Burks

Im glad that they didn't do either trade..... im sure most of you disagree, but i think junk yard dunk might be better for the jazz than bledsoe would. (and i really wanted bledsoe)

They should have traded millsap and jeffy last year

After reading all the other posters thoughts, i have changed my mind and now actually think that they should have done the clippers trade. (if the clippers were ok with it)

If the Clippers deal was true and the Jazz were the ones who didn't pull the trigger I would probably stop watching--you can't root for a team where your front office is working against you (see the Kings).

But I doubt it. It's hard to pin down the logic of the Jazz refusing that trade.

The only two reasons I can come up with have giant holes:

The Jazz don't like Bledsoe

Hole: it doesn't matter whether they like him or not. They can't deny he's an intriguing prospect with a high ceiling. Millsap is gone at the end of the year in all likelihood. You're not giving up an asset--you're getting something for a piece you're losing anyway. Carroll is a nice rotation piece but nothing more. If Bledsoe doesn't work out you deal with that later. With the Indiana deal, you've got to be sure on Granger because if not you've just sunk your franchise--that's the stakes; the Jazz of course weren't sure, and did the smart thing by turning the deal down. Bledsoe--there's no way that trade can bite you. If you decide Bledsoe isn't your guy, fine; trade him or let him walk.

And, this one seems (unfortunately) much more likely: The Jazz wanted to make the playoffs this year, thought the Clippers trade would have prohibited them from doing so (probably would have), and believe Bledsoe or a piece like him will still be on the table during the offseason (but what would the Jazz trade for him?).

This is the only logical explanation for turning that trade down, and it's not logical. It's horrible. You're not even making the playoffs with Millsap.

Still, I highly doubt the Clippers actually put this on the table. I have no doubt there was a conversation, but it makes no sense on the Jazz end to turn it down. Clippers probably wanted Garnett and were using the Jazz as leverage.

Welp, it is nice to know that Utah and Indy know how to talk to one another. I had started to believe they must hate hate each other.

If it turns out that all we had to give up for Bledsoe was Millsap and DMC and we didn't pull the trigger, I have no words for the stupidity of this FO.

I'm guessing the Clippers were probably trying to get a pick or two from the deal, which may have caused the Jazz to decline. But like MoTown said earlier, we'll never know all of the details or the exact reason why this deal didn't happen.

That would be my guess. And the Jazz probably balked, since they are liking quite a few players in the teens this year.

The funniest thing is the Jazz still technically could've signed Millsap after all of this if they wanted to.

I'd love to know specifics, but knowing them is probably an impossibility.

Based on the fact that Donald Sterling pulled out of the Caron Butler for Trevor Ariza deal at the last minute, my guess is that he also pulled out of this one. Sterling didn't want to do anything that was going to jeopardize the way his team is currently playing. Now that Millsap is injured and Odom is finally playing well, Sterling is looking smart. My guess is that Utah would have said an absolute yes to that deal. Even if Odom is waived or walks, you are still getting a solid young PG under contract for Millsap that will sign elsewhere and DeMarre who Utah can somewhat easily replace.
