Please, I beg you please, do not address Dutchjazzer directly. Do not engage in a back and fourth with that poster. If you want to address an inaccuracy, just state the truth without quoting him, without acknowledging him.

For his more outlandish and inflammatory posts, just let them stand as examples of what he really represents (lightly racist, heavily misogynistic, judeo-christian supremacist, neo-con, alt-right). It's okay. Anyone worth anything will see it for what it is. He isn't convincing anyone with his childish manner.

We don't need to pretend like he doesn't exist, but we don't need to give his illegitimate nonsense any legitimacy, either.

If a reasonable person quotes him then other's who have him on ignore see what he posts when they don't want to. We also want to know the context of what the reasonable people are saying. Then more people get pulled into the muck. Then meaningful discussion breaks down. The trolls win.

[MENTION=1]Jason[/MENTION] has no intention of enforcing board rules and standards in a meaningful way and continues to inflict us with easily identifiable trolls. We're basically on our own here, but WE can make this a better place.

I put Douchejazzer on ignore long ago(only dude I've ever ignored), but yeah he still ****s up almost every good General Discussion thread.

hey Wes i think if you're looking to meet someone or something special the personal ads are in a different section of the forum.

I've had dutch douchebag on ignore for ages, well worth it.
 
I have also had him on ignore since about 2014. I may occasionally open up his post to see what it is, and am even tempted to respond, but then realize it's pointless and would require me to read more of his dribblings later and think better of it.
 
I can confirm the reason why I don't post much in the GD or read it is because of Dutch.
 
Adopted this policy long ago. Boycott Dutch 100% works, you'll forget about him instantly
 
Thanks for the call out [MENTION=4984]Bulletproof[/MENTION] ... I saw it when posted and have been thinking more on this the last few days. I think I want to involve more of the rep system to combat this alongside our current process - which I still believe works well for standard report/infraction scenarios. If someone violates the rules in an obvious manner, report it and we'll address it. Unfortunately, that quite often is a GREY area and if we took everything to the letter of the law, if you will, I think a good percentage of the community would be in violation at times. So we do our best. We have a voting system among moderators to determine what action is taken from EVERY report received. We submit our own reports as well for vote, not just those all of you send.

As for those community members that attack or consistently preaching an off-topic method, please use the REP system for now. If they go negative today, they cannot start a thread. I'm looking at versions of "timeouts" or something where too many negative REPs in a certain time prevent them from posting at all, etc. I'm also looking around at other communities as to how they solve this as well. I know many have no tolerance and others ignore it. Who does it well that you've seen?

As for outright attacks or things that are likely a bigger issue than a simple infraction, we're discussing this as well. Even on reddit (credit [MENTION=14]colton[/MENTION]) they do permanent and immediate bans for bigger offenses:

Thanks Jason. I know we are a surly, angsty, immature bunch a lot of the time and I think you guys really do a good job moderating this neurotic mess. Glad to hear some of the behind the scenes working in the moderator group. We might bitch about it but this is really a pretty well-run site.

One suggestion I have is to hide posts that get too many dislikes. You can still view the post but you have to click on it just like it is with blocked posters now. That could also be true of posters that get too negative. All of their posts get hidden. I am sure there is some adjustments that could be made for that. This gives a little bit of power to the board as a whole to dictate their content. I know many comment sections do something of this nature.
 
There is really no good reason for sweeping changes. Just ignore Dutch if you don't wanna read his posts. I don't want every unpopular opinion to be hidden.

...it is more than Dutch. In fact, much of this came about before any single instance or member. Just growing with the times. But yes, ignore is a feature available - use it.
 
I like the idea of current rep being used. If a person is having a bad day and decides to be an *** that day, they get a bunch of negative rep and get their posting privileges taken away for a while. Call it the timeout you mentioned. I don't how hard it is to incorporate into the site, but I like it.
 
I have my moments when I resort to petty insults or repping people "cry harder." I've noticed, since I started posting again, there tends to be people who constantly try and egg you on and make fun of your opinion or twist your words. To them, no matter what you actually say, they're going to try and get a reaction or piss you off. I find that even putting people on ignore, it almost influences them more to dislike your posts and reference you or try and get your attention. I just got an infraction because I reacted (I shouldn't have wrote what I did. It was a poor attempt at humor and I understand how it was offensive) to a poster in the Jazz game thread who insulted me twice and brought up Ben Shapiro and cutting me in half. Then my reaction to those insults becomes "derailing" the thread.
I left Jazzfanz last year to try and keep my focus off of toxic things said on here at the time. I started posting again because I've enjoyed my time on here over the last decade, mostly, and am beyond excited about the Jazz this year - and I like the discussions. I feel the forum is still pretty toxic and trendy. Hell, I mean there's a thread that literally tries to condone insults to posters if opinions are disagreed on.
Having a "dislike" button to hide people's posts could be effective. It could also be used because it's trendy and a form of trolling a poster. Some people on here have the pack wolf mentality and if they see blood they will jump on that **** with the pack.
I fully expect Wes to call me dumb and sensitive. Siro and Cappy to dislike and Dalamon to neg rep me some thing about Ben Shapiro. :P

But no really, I've seen forums where dislikes hide posts. It creates an echo chamber. It's not a good idea.

I have a good amount of rep points, so I'd like a system that favors those with high rep points. Duh.

How many posts get lots of dislikes? People dont often dislike posts just because they disagree. They dislike what the post is doing and usually posts with a lot of dislikes are not just a differing opinion but being rude or hurtful to someone. People are pretty open to polite posts on here that offer differing opinions. It works great on comment sections. It usually just blocks trolling posts.
