Best thing to do is ignore the haters. Make sure security is upgraded. Focus entirely on being a positive person, and learn a little bit about how minor cultural differences can be blown out of proportion.

Anybody who knows Donovan understands that he was complimenting their fans, not complaining. That’s exactly his personality. Not sure that translated as efficiently as he would’ve hoped it would. Adidas PR needs to get ON TOP of this and make sure he’s safe though.

Well he’s not there anymore, he’s in Paris now so he should be fine lol.

Didn't realize that. I’m pretty sure Europe will be way more chill about it. The Chinese are pretty intense.

Still. . . after one episode like this, I’d be insisting a stronger security presence for the duration of my trip.

“Go back to your country” “I hope your mom dies” “don’t come back to China n****” ....these are the comments over him not signing something and saying they were relentless....while they were at his hotel for 8 hours.......smh

I’m not defending them at all. That’s garbage, and if it happened here it would be covered extensively in the media. That won’t happen in China. Adidas should’ve been more on top of things and making sure his time there was smooth.

There’s always going to be crazies and dirtbags online. Just ignore it and keep an eye out for legitimate threats.

It sounds like most of the people were just fine. That’s what his focus should be. Don’t let the nutjobs and assholes ruin the positive inroads made there. Move on and make sure to control the environment a little better the next time you go back.
 
I hope he doesn't go back if they were that hostile, racist and disrespectful.

I'm sure it wasn't all of the people there that were acting disrespectful and rude though. It's probably just like in the states or anywhere else where a few idiots can ruin things for everyone. But still racism and death threats are not ever okay. **** that.

I can see why Google translate is having trouble translating this... but this is not pretty at all
 
Also, it reinforces why China is an absolute piece of ****, and why I'll always say I'm from Hong Kong and never say I'm Chinese.

Their keyboard warrior mentality is the worst of anywhere in the world, and they think they have to power to do anything they want. They can go suck a fat one
 
Asia by and large is very racists, and very divisive even against other tribes / ethnic groups within the same country. Added to cultural divides it can get be tricky to navigate publicly.

You have to go there a bit to understand it... but it’s crazy. Bad on adidas for not having monitors to step in on social media and translate what his comments actually mean.

He was in a hotel lobby in the videos. Not a store, not an event. A ****ing hotel lobby. Those guys can suck a bad of wet, juicy dog poop. Let the guy have some peace.
