What's new

Andre Miller

I'd rather the minutes to Neto or Burks.

The media has been saying that due to contract issues, Neto is likely to wait 1-2 years before joining the Jazz. I don't know how much the buyout clause is, just keep reading it online and hearing it on 1280AM.

Is there still room to absorb Andre Miller's $5m post the Warriors trade? Utah still only has 1-PG on the roster.

i think that would put us slightly over cap

not sure but when you go over cap you pay luxury tax

and you are only allowed to go oer the tax a few years in a row before the tax rate spikes

no point in starting that process in motion now

From Desert News:
The trade that surfaced helped the Warriors with financial relief they needed, but the multifaceted transaction also pushed Utah's salary closer to the league minimum that's expected to be in the neighborhood of $52.5 million.
The Jazz took on three expiring contracts from Golden State that total $24 million, boosting Utah's payroll — relatively small previously because of all of the young players — up to the $49 million mark.

They have $3.5 million to spend before even hitting the minimum and another $6m in space before they hit the cap. There is definitely room to absorb the $5m from Andre and and add another piece or two. Denver might want to keep Andre now that they lost out on Iggy though.

Andre is too good of a player for us to be interested in him. It would also be a mistake to sign a competent back up at this point... I wouldn't have been against it originally but it would totally be a mixed message about wtf we're trying to do

Jazz do need a vet backup PG who can play starter minutes if Burke gets hurt.
Burke does play reckless. He was always beat up in college.

No, you are confusing the salary cap with the luxury tax level.

I just don't understand why we're pushing for a good backup pg... look at our backup bigs. And our staters are just as liable to get injured. None of the backups are starter quality.. In fact they are laughably not 3rd string quality. But would be called to start in a pinch. Rofl.

All the Ute fans would be chanting for Miller if Burke has a bad game. Hey, that is what they say about us getting Jimmer. Sorry just tired of that crap. If we were not tanking, Miller would be a great pick up for us.

I want a crafty, smart, and articulate pg to help mentor Trey. I think Tinsley is as a great teammate, can lead by example during practice and is very supportive to the young guys however I don't think he can "coach" them that well. On TV you see him yelling and talking to the players all the time but I can tell from being at all the games last year and being able to hear a lot of thing he said that it's not anything different then a Dad at a 12 year basketball game.

I don't know how well Miller does that kind of thing but I'd imagine he would be a good mentor. I'd love if Trey picked up some of his tricks. Miller I think could also help teach the young big guys to get to their spots better during games. So I'm 100% for getting Miller. Off the top of my head I can't think of any player i'd rather have as our packup pg.
