What's new

Andrei Kirilenko, Tim Duncan, and Channing Frye Were in World of Warcraft Gulld Together

It is far more accessible now than when it first came out. It's the only reason it survives.

Back in the day of vanilla WoW, you pretty much had to play 10+ hours a day EVERYDAY to achieve high ranks in PvP. Finishing a raid was practically a full time job.

Haha... are you speaking from experience here Siro?!?!

This is funny to me cos imagining dropped out of school kids sitting around at home playing WOW eating pizzas all day, and having all that resembling a 'job' is just too funny to me.

Well, I knew a guy who lost his job, his marriage, and his kids, to his WoW addiction. He had a great career in WoW though. Guild leader, decked in epics, lots of gold, etc.

You know, you win some and you lose some.

Yeah I can relate 100%. My final year finishing off my Masters degree I had gotten hooked on this online japanese golf game, collecting items and new clubs and characters and whatnot. You had to be playing all the time to level up, etc. I was sleep deprived, didn't get to class, was in mild depression at one point and nearly failed my classes.

One day while in an exam I realized I was failing it and it was getting out of hand. I deleted my account and never looked back.

Never ever going back there again... LOL ...

LOL ... Duncan named his daughter 'Quill' after Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy.. haha..

Stoked should get a kick out of this, he likes naming his kids after famous TV personalities IIRC.

What? No I don't. My kids are not named after anyone.

At first I thought getting addicted to WOW was sad, but holy ****, getting addicted to a random golf game is 100x worse.

Some people do make a pretty good amount of money selling items and characters in that game, or at least they use to. IDK if it's still a thing people do.

It wasn't just a normal typical golf game, it was like a fantasy golf game? Like there were all sorts of characters. You can get a polar bear to be your caddie. You can choose different outfits, etc, too. Also all sorts of girls were playing it so it was a good place to meet people.

You can also play in this tournament where 100's of people tee off all at the same time, then you win prizes.

This was about 10-12 years ago now.

I don't know about wow but pro league of legends players and popular streamers make a **** ton of money.

dota 2 players make 100x more money from tournament winnings than LoL players, because the winnings are crowdsourced i think. so if you look at top tournament winnings, dota by far trumps LoL.

also, riot has some really stupid policies that make it harder for LoL players/teams to get sponsorships, so their potential revenue goes down again after that.

I will take suggestions. It is a wonderful coping mechanism for me after the loss of my wife.

It definitely isn't for everyone, but I love Pokemon. There's a million variants out there now, starting with randomizers of original games, then proceeding to hacks of the games (some with completely new regions), then some completely fan made games which are made in standalone programs. There's a lot of stuff you can get into. Nuzlockes and stuff can also spice it up.

Again, I can see why a lot of people wouldn't want to get into pokemon, but i really like it. Less stress than online games. I watch lets plays on youtube a bit more than i actually play them though.

That's true. Lol players (non pro) make more through other avenues like sponsors and streaming. Riot supports it's pro players but are more concerned about regular players. Dota overpays it's pros in tournaments to try and drive it's tournaments popularity and in turn it's games popularity.

I'd say they don't take care of their pro players. A lot of really shady stuff going down in overseas leagues and the challenger scene. Like, really really shady stuff lol. But that's not a discussion for this forum haha.

LoL just has a lower learning curve and is more accessible for people to start watching and playing and is thus more popular, so streaming and sponsors are probably more profitable. I think dota doesn't have a league either, and it's just a bunch of tournaments, which also boosts those numbers. But dota tournaments have multi million prize pools, pretty ridiculously high.

No MMO on the market even compares to WoW in term of amount and quality of content, stability of the game, customer support, and most importantly, population size.

It is still, far and away, the leading MMO.

Population size is one of the reasons I still play LOL. It is by far the most popular video game ever. With about 70 million people playing every month at least once at about 20-30 million online at any given point.

WOWs beginning stuff is so outdated and boring that it is hard to play even with the updates. If you are playing at high levels it still seems pretty fun. I have never liked the combat stuff in WOW though, to boring for me. They do have great support but they also charge an outrageous price and have the numbers. I would think they would put out an even better quality game and updates. They keep getting worse. But I think Blizzard is putting their money towards other games. They are not going to lose their die hard customers that have been playing this long. WOW is the reason MMOs are what they are today though, they are definitely the #1 MMO of all time. But I cannot stand MMOs anymore so I am the wrong customer for all of them. The side quests and kill 10 of these things type quests are so tedious and I am not playing games for tedious. I also mostly played the arena stuff (actually competitive stuff) in WOW but then discovered that LOL and other games like that are much much better for that.

I don't disagree with any of this, really. Nobody really plays the beginning stuff since it now takes you like 6 hours to hit max. Leveling goes by real fast.

I used to PvP back in TBC, but I'm mostly a raider. I play each expansion for 2-3 months to check out raids and new content, then I quit till next expansion. I already did that for Legion, clearing Emerald Nightmare and the Nighthold. Will be back next expansion. :)

I can not understand a damn word y'all kids say. Pvp tbc mmos WoW. Back in my day we played physical games like pinball that increased your hand eye coordination an we actually knew what a basketball hoop was outside of a 100 inch plasma screen tv. Hell, we even played volleyball at reunions an stuff an now all these kids want to do is trade a ten dollar ball in for a 1000 tablet an pretend they do not know or care about there cousins ants uncles grandparents an even there own damn siblings!

Hearing people speak in these terms, y'all have to darn much time on your hands an need to get a job.

Yeah, one of the guys I know is really into Team Fortress 2 and is always making a few dollars here and there when selling items. If you devoted a good amount of your time to it then you could definitely make a lot of money.
