What's new

Another Williams?

Another dumb thread.

Derrick Williams is a combo forward. We already have Paul and Marvin who can play both forward spots. Kanter is a center. 5's >>>>>>>>>>> combo 3/4's.

To make it somewhat interesting.... Do you do a Marvin for Derrick? Money doesn't work, I know. Hypothetical question here. Me personally, I would have to watch more of Derrick to see what we have. Already putting the kid on the trading block doesn't mean a whole lot when it's the Timberwolves.

Maybe Marvin for Derrick. But, hell no on Kanter for Derrick. Just.....no.
Probably not. Marvin has shown he can be an efficient SF and a pretty decent defender. I don't think you can say the same - yet - about Derrick. Derrick has more potential, but it's just that at this point. Minnesota better keep him around, though, It's almost a given AK will miss 15 games.

It's hard to say so early, but I feel that Marvin is a better fit right now for us than Derrick.

If Minnesota needs another white player, i cannot see a reason not to. And also Utah will be known as one of the 9. Ghenna perhaps? You can never have enough dwills.

kanter would have been a better fit for the timberwolves than williams... you can't complain much about the williams draft selection (he was sort of a sure thing despite beeing a tweener 3/4 and was really nba-ready), but kanter or valanciunas would have been a better choice for the wolves, imo.

Did you guys see that? It was a tweet by the guy from the beginning of the last season.

If something happens like that, KOC will be named Isiah Thomas of Jazz and we will be full of PFs so the team will be called a la Utah Rockets or utah Bucks

Haha yeah no doubt.

Forget Kanter for Derrick Williams..... horrible trade.

You never trade down in size unless you're an idiot.

I'm sorry, but this is one of those blanket statements that make no sense.

So you wouldn't trade Paul Milsap for Chris Paul? Or Hasheem Thabeet for Blake Griffin?

Surely, talent has something to do with it, right?

this.

i still wouldn't trade kanter for DW2 right now, but if kanter doesn't progress like i'm hoping, then i don't think there are any hard-and-fast rules about who you should trade him for.

also, williams probably has more star potential than either kanter or marvin... just food for thought.

So let's take this one step further...
Assume Jazz trade Millsap or Jefferson for pick(s).

Would you offer the GS pick and another first for Williams?

hmm, intriguing. thing is, the GS pick is going to be in the 8-12 range and our own picks are mid to late first rounders. so derrick is better than what we'd likely get with those picks.

on the other hand, if they traded al as opposed to paul (which is what i'd want), then you're left with a bunch of tweeners (paul, marvin, derrick) and favors is pretty much forced to be a full-time 5 versus a guy who plays both spots in a 3-man rotation.

so honestly i don't know. i suppose it depends on what we got back for al in the hypothetical trade.
