What's new

Ante Tomic is ballin right now

Pekovic was also a second rounder and Minnesota gave him nearly 13 million for three years. I think Tomic would demand like 4 million per annum. I doubt he will be willing to come over i mean this guy is 27 now and not every european players priority is to rock in the NBA. Most of the balkan boys preferring to stay in Europe because of the different style in the NBA, they are having problems to adjust.

In the NBA you have to be good as an individual player but in Europe the team effort is more on focus and also the system. Additionally they hate the whole trading system in the NBA and of course they are used to play key roles in Europe and arent able to accept less meaningful roles.

Pretty sure Undrafted and Second rounders are considered the same when it comes to contracts.
Things may have changed under the new CBA, but I remember the Jazz paying Miles extra. They had promised to take him with their second 1st-rounder, which of course was conveyed to Portland in the trade to move up for Deron. They took CJ in the second, but paid him 1st-round money (and guaranteed his contract). In the case of Matthews, all the Jazz could do was extend a QO making him a RFA, but the Blazers could offer much more than what a 2nd-rounder or undrafted player would earn. Matthews as an undrafted player was making more than the #1 pick in his draft class in Year 2.

I would assume there is probably a time limit in terms of the salary restrictions for drafted players. If a player becomes a star in Europe but team X drafted him in the 2nd round and he's subject to being paid just $500K, there's no way that player would ever come to the NBA.

Same stuff was said about Evans, he is producing.

Tomic can play in the NBA. The question is if he is willing to take the role and pay cut to do it.

We have a saying ' dont confuse Apple with Pear'
Dont know if i translate correctly. I mean Evans is a similar product with completely different seeds. He is used to being a good athlete all his life. Tomic doesnt meet the nba requirements. He pass the Skills and Fundamentals class but he got an F from athleticism and toughness.

Basically if you are Tomic and his likes, you can't qualify to nba school unless you bribe the Dean.

The fact is he is a very good basketball player. He can play in the NBA. I'm nearly positive of it. Not saying how good he can be, but to say he doesn't have a chance of competing is ignorant, imo.

I'm at least intrigued by the possibility of bringing him over. The Jazz can offer whatever they want. The CBA allows teams to offer more than the salary scale for a pick if they haven't signed with the team that owns their NBA rights after 3 years. Learned this because of the Bulls situation with Nikola Mirotic.

27 years old already and this week he had a career high of 24 points?
I know stats can be a bit underwhelming in Europe, but he's not much of a scorer, not a dominant rebounder and he's skinny (7'1" 225). So just what does he do well?

He's averaging ~ 11 and 6 in 22 mpg, in a league where it's hard to accumulate stats. Hell, he averages more assists than turnovers, not too many big guys can say that.

He's a smooth, polished player. I would love to have him over here.

He should at least be a good trade asset this summer if we are not going to use him:

Ante Tomic has been named Euroleague MVP for the month of February.

Tomic averaged 22.0 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 29.5 minutes over three February games for Barcelona.
