Any updates on Memo?

I was reading the "Trade Big Al to Orlando" thread and someone made the point "If we trade Big Al, who will take the center minutes? Favors is better at the 4 and Kanter isn't ready." A small voice in my heart cried, "Bring back Memo!"

What are your thoughts? Now that he isn't attached to a $10 million contract, should the Jazz consider him? I think it's pretty clear that he's not a starter anymore (despite our high expectations last year at the beginning of the season.) He probably plays 10-20 minutes a night.

Deep down I know I'm being ridiculous. I'm just a really big Memo fan. I remember where I was when I was listening to 1320 and they announced the Jazz had traded him to the Nets. My buddy called me and we both yelled out "WHY?!!" In the end it was a good trade for the Jazz. Memo wasn't worth the preseason hype. Do you think all the training camp talk of Memo was just to trick a team into making a trade?

I still love Memo. He gave everything to the Jazz and lost his basketball career because of it. I would love it if the Jazz could find a way to bring him in for Raja's contract, but then I guess we run the risk of him turning into Raja (bitter old man who can still play, but doesn't really deserve the minutes he thinks he deserves.)

Sigh. This post has lost direction. I just really miss Memo and hope he's doing well.

P.S. Last year at this time we did a thread tracking down DWill, AK and Memo's houses. I just looked up Memo's house in Salt Lake, he hasn't gotten around to selling it!

I remember the Celtics were interested in adding Memo for the playoffs, but Memo decided he wasn't healthy enough and wanted more time to rehab.

Team is at 15 players with Roger. Using his contract would leave them at 15 still which leaves the Jazz with no room for mid year emergency signings. Besides, he's done. Really. He might play some in Turkey where the games are fewer and further seperated..... and slower, but his NBA days are done, or at least should be.

If he still has game left, I would be happy to see him in a Jazz uniform again. I think, though, that he needs to do what AK47 did and play in his native country for a season, prove that he still has game, possibly reignite the flame in himself, and then come back to the NBA then. Seemingly, the Heat would be a good team for him on a vet's minimum deal, as they need centers and shooters and he is both.

He can still shoot the 3.
Which is so important for the center position...........

I don't want any player with a repetitive injury history on the team. That includes Roger, Memo, AK, Josh, anybody who is injured again and again with similar injury's. Memo: forget the Achilles tenon, he has recurring back problems. AK the same, Josh was injured much of last season, and Roger as well. These players mess up the continuity of the team and prevent the team from developing a consistant rotation pattern.

Sign-and-trade with Portland for Roger? May be possible if you throw in Tomic.

Yes you are being ridiculous. Man there are a lot of Jazz fans that must have had a hard time breaking up with their girlfriends. Guys .. news flash.. S&M, Horny, AK, Matthews, DW etc are not walking through that door. It is time to stop pining for old wash-up former Jazz players. Memo is a shell of himself besides the fact the Jazz have a full roster.

We need defense from the center spot. Yes memo can still shoot 3s. But can he stop someone on the pick and roll? I think I would rather have that tall skinny dude from the summer league team over memo at this point and I like memo.

I have an update. Memo is even older and slower than he was last time he had a Jazz jersey on.

Memo might be a shell of himself, but his contract would be a lot smaller too. I think he'd be better than a Francisco Elson.

But I agree with what most people are saying. He didn't work out in New Jersey, doubt it would work here (it's not like he's be returning to the same team)

Agreed here.

I think he would be worth it as a fourth big, for maybe 1 million for one year.
He'd still have chances to prove himself during garbage time.

I loved Memo, and he totally got a raw deal in these forums (common practice, but not a surprise as people now complain our best player is the reason) as people always complained he was the biggest reason for our failures . He was money at crunch time. He deserves better, stay away.
