Primitive camping close to stuff is everywhere and easy to find.
Bahia de Los Angeles is a long way from you, but I assume you know that. The spring is very cool because there are tons of whales in the waters that can be watched almost constantly (even from shore).
Remote beaches are easy to find and worth getting "away" from the population because the beaches haven't been picked over and the sand dollars, whale bones, and shells are incredible. We brought home almost 2,000 sand dollars alone.
Depending on how long you're going to be there, Bahia is pretty lacking on cool restaurants and such. San Felipe is closer to you and has more endless supplies of activities... and I can make tons of recs including walking into bars and being welcomed with open arms when dropping my wife and I's name... and would even call ahead to make sure they know you're coming... the people are the best.
Regardless, the Baja is great and my favorite spots are east coast from San Felipe down to Loreto. Oh, btw, Loreto now has a regional airport and flies non-stop from LA. If I lived in LA I'd go down at least once every couple months.
