Anyone else think we should've kept Millsap?

Not to mention averaged more blocks than Favors as well.
 
Paul Milsap is one of my favorite jazz players of all time. The guy is a workhorse. I was always puzzled by how many Jazz fans turned on him at the end. The two players I wished the Jazz had kept were Paul and Carroll. However, it was obvious that Paul didn't want to be a backup either. So him leaving was I guess going to happen regardless if I wanted him to stay. To me Paul will be on the all-time list of 2nd rounders if he continues playing the way he has. I still watch his performance against Miami with great joy.

I wish he was on the Jazz not because he scored 45 points but because he embodies what Jazz fans want in a Jazz player. Jazz certainly would have made the playoffs with him.
 
Would've loved to be able to keep Sap, but at the time it seemed like we were drowning in PFs and needed to usher in the new era so we could actually see what we had with the young guys.

Still, I hate that he is gone, he was and is perfect for our team.

He was one of my favorites as well until his last season where he quit trying a lot of games and pulled the same move as Kanter just didnt talk about it. He wanted out of here for awhile.

Also he is more versatile than Favors offensively at the 4 but efficiency wise he is not doing much more offensively than Favors and he has a real point guard getting him good looks and their offense is much better spaced than the Jazz. Milsap next to Gobert and with the pg fiasco we have had recently he would not be putting up better offensive numbers than Favors. Favors is also more versatile in being able to play the 4 or 5 well. I know Milsap can step into the 3 but not for long periods of time.

Favors can guard more positions than Sap too. He's been switched into every position this past season & he never did a bad job.

Obvs Favors won't get blocks because of how the Jazz defense is organized. He's a better rim-protector than Sap tho, I'd be floored if the stats indicated otherwise.

I'm glad you were able to see into the future. I'm not sure why you keep acting like I'm saying stuff I'm not saying. Maybe it's my fault? I posted basically what I was saying to console myself when Millsap let the Jazz. I really liked him a lot. I was sad to see him go. But the Millsap that left Utah wasn't as good as the Millsap that played on Atlanta this year. He's improved. You're awesome for knowing that before it happened. Just pat yourself real hard on the back for me one time, okay?

As much as I like him, letting him go seemed like a reasonable move at the time. Still don't see the point of all the threads involving players we let go. You cannot keep them all happy right?

Moreover, we are making an assumption that he wanted to stay here.

Also, Silesian point is valid. He developed his game in Atlanta, just like Korver, adding some things to his game that will lengthen his career. He would be a great fit NOW
 
I hated to lose him but at the same time proud of everything he has accomplished since I know that it all started here where he developed his skills. And he would probably still be overlooked in the western conference in east he's 3x all star and on a team that does pretty well every year. So it worked out well for him.
 
The main point about Millsap is what GVC brought up at first. If Exum, Hood and the future pick turn out to be better than millsap, the jazz made the right move. It sucks that they didn't have a guy that pretty much embodies jazz basketball, but they weren't going anywhere great with that situation the team was in.

There could possibly have been other moves to get the same outcome, less the pick that became dante Exum. But this is the route the jazz took.

By the way, absolutely no one is sad about letting Jefferson walk and trading Williams.

First, I love Millsap and he was great even in his down year.

But numbers virtually the same in his last year at Utah? You've got to be kidding. How about down across the board. Rebounds down 13% from 9.7 to 8.4. Points down 11% (16.6 to 14.6).

If you like advanced stats, BPM down from 5.0 to 3.8. WS/48 down 14% from 0.179 to 0.154.

Turnovers up, steals down. Only improvement was in blocks.

Over the course of a season these are statistically significant drops. And all these reinforce my "eye test" on him for the year.


Even if you love Millsap like I do, you need to take off the rose colored glasses and see reality.

So you're going to punish him for his coach playing derrick favors and Kanter more? Look at his per 36 numbers. Points down 5%, rebounds down, blocks and assists up. Fg% down 0.05 %

All this and he was playing with one if jefferson, favors or Kanter all the time.

But sure, let's ignore that he played less minutes per game. And was still efficient. He isn't karl malone, but he has always been better than all the big men we have had since boozer.

Good Lord what does Sap have to do to earn a little Jazz fan love? The guy has been a top defender for two years in a row. You going to give Draymond the edge because he is on the 2nd best team in NBA history with a player who arguably just had the very best season of all time? Put Sap on that team and all his numbers go up.

Draymond's assist are insane tho, I give him that. But I don't know how else you say an 18.8/10/3.6/2.0/1.9 per 36 and .556 ts% is worse than 14.5/9.9/7.7/1.5/1.4 per 36 and a ts% of .587.

Sap is the hub of a middle of the road offense. Draymond benefits from possibly the best offenses the planet has ever seen.

First, I love Millsap and am not punishing him. I am commenting on year over year performance, which was clearly down.

I gave you total statistics, per 48 minutes statistics and per 100 possession statistics. All are valid for comparison purposes. If you chose to ignore the totals and only look at per 36 numbers, your analysis may not be complete.
