Anyone ever had an Alaskan Husky Golden Retriever Mix

So I really want to get a Husky, but I know that, currently, my living situation would not accommodate one as well as would be ideal. What I mean is that I live in an apartment and I have also heard that Huskies have TONS of energy, are escape artists and will run away the first chance they get. makes sense. They were meant to be working dogs, sled dogs. So what is the next best thing? Mix a Husky with an ideal breed.

Introducing, the Goberian (Alaskan Husky Golder Retriever mix.)

Anyways, I have read a few things about this dog and it almost sounds like you get best of both worlds. They sound like splendid dogs.

Can anyone offer a first hand or even second hand narrative regarding the Goberian or perhaps even another good breed choice to mix a Husky.

You live in an apartment. Why would you ever get a big dog when you live in an apartment? Even this mixed breed is going to be a high energy dog which needs to be walked daily or you're going to experience behavioral problems.

Is this where the Future Husky Owners of Jazzfanz Club meets? Present. I don't know a Goberian from one of those Magic the Gathering card playing humans, but I want an all white Siberian Husky. I've got to a get a skinny wife first, husky dog after.
 
I admit, weird post..

but I have had husky's and retrievers.. and my best dog, by far, was a husky/shepherd mix.. AWESOME dog. I've often felt that the only thing that may matchup would be a good husky/good retriever mix.

I've done a little dog rescue/farm thing. I had a wolf/malamute, a ChowChow/Australian Shepherd, and a German Shepherd/coyote. Awesome animals, every one. I agree with Vinny on the apt/large dog note. I love Goldens but they're too dopey. I love Labs, but they're too energetic. . . . yah they can read your mind and are smarter than you are, and get more personally attached than any other dog I've known. . . .but they open gates by lifting latches, and climb over six foot chainlink if they can't dig under. . . . .

I had a purebred American Eskimo, and a Malemute, and a Great Pyrhennes as well. Of them all, if I had just one, it'd be the wolf/malemute for sheer devotion. I didn't have to carry a gun when hiking in the cougars' canyon. . . .

Interesting.. I've had two wolf mixes and both pissed me off, everyday. They were volatile.

I've heard things like that. . . .

Mine was female.

She was a handful on a leash, and could run pretty fast. Couldn't take the heat very well in the 100 degree F range. . . . but somehow I ranked as her alpha. Stayed close where she could run free, relatively speaking.

Maybe I don't remember it all that clearly. She didn't see much of humans besides me, and I suppose she'd have given them second thoughts for sure if they did come around. . . .
 
I wouldn't get either breed if I lived in an apartment. If you are dead set on getting a big dog I'd recommend you buy one that is already a few years and has already hit it's "chill" phase. Unless someone is home during the day getting a puppy while you live in an apartment will be bad for both you and the dog.

We had a wolf malamute hybrid when I was growing up. Great dog but requires more walks(running) then I would be willing to do these days. I've been thinking about getting a mastiff or newfoundland for a few years. I've always loved big dogs especially the gentle giant personalities.
 
My brother has a Husky, he lives in an apt .... the dog destroys his place on a daily basis. I'm sure adding a Retriever to the mix would help but I just can't fathom why you would want a big working dog in a tiny apt. Seems like a recipe for disaster.

Interesting that you find it weird... I'm just looking for the right dog for my position so I wanted to generate some ideas and see other perspectives...
