What's new

Anyone ever see Crumb?

I saw it - loved the interaction with his brothers and mother. Maybe the most dysfunctional people that ever lived.

I liked that movie. I love Crumb's artwork - more for style than content, but that dude has some serious issues. The doc was definitely interesting, tho.

You should watch American Splendor. It's not a documentary - Paul Giamatti plays Harvey Pekar, who wrote some mostly autobiographical comics (he didn't illustrate) that were called American Splendor. He was a bit off center, to say the least. Very interesting, IMO.

I'll check it out. I remember hearing about it when it came out.

I found some of Crumb's comics hilarious in the documentary. But I'd say 90% went over my head.

My favorite was the one that is similar to the famous Aristocrats joke, and ends with the husband saying to his wife "Gee, we should spend more family time together" or something along those lines. People were grossly offended by it - and it is vulgar to be sure - but it's just a simple joke.

I also liked when he was talking to that journalist about society.

I would absolutely LOVE to see a documentary featuring the families that grew up next to the Crumb's - and the stories they could tell. LOL
