With the Nets and Magic, of course.

Prior to the deadline last season, KOC was very close to working on a deal with New Jersey so they could clear enough space to swing a deal for Howard. Of course all that fell apart when Dwight decided to stay with the Magic.

If Deron re-signs with New Jersey, and Houston is unable to swing a deal for Howard, Jazz might be players in facilitating a deal, given our expirings and the Memo TPE.

I'm not going to be too discouraged if KOC can't make a draft-day trade. I still think there might be some good opportunities once free agency starts, especially when Deron makes his final choice between NJ and Dallas. And all rumors right know point to Deron playing in Brooklyn and Dwight wanting to join him there.

as for the OP, first we have to believe that KOC really was close to being part of a deal there. second, the way a third team usually gets involved by "facilitating" is taking dead salary from one of the primary teams to help make salaries match. they often aren't compensated with anything of immediate value, but rather with future assets (like all the draft picks we stockpiled in the early to mid 00s).

also, the need for "facilitators" has reduced with the new CBA because now there's a wider salary window to make acceptable trades, so fewer gaps to fill with a third team who has cap space or a TPE.

With two max players + Wallace, NJ will likely need to dump some salary. Lopez would go to Orlando, along with other players. But Utah could get some decent backups like Morrow, Petro, etc. along with some draft picks in exchange for freeing up cap space for Brooklyn. That's what I was getting at.
 
morrow is a decent windfall, i guess, but petro doesn't excite me at all. and if the nets have DW+DH, their draft picks are going to be in the 25-30 range.

still, i get what you're saying. i'm just hoping that's not all the jazz have planned for this summer.

Me neither. I'd like to see some other moves made, but I hope the Jazz don't just let the Memo TPE expire. Make the Nets take Raja too. That would offfset getting a late first. I was just throwing some names out there. There are probably other players on that roster the Jazz could take instead of Petro. I just remember there was a lot of chatter about a Jazz/Nets trade at the deadline. NJ did blow some of their assets to get Wallace, but Orlando might prefer a proven Lopez + others over the picks Houston would give them.

I forget Wallace was a FA. If the Nets get Howard, then it may come down to making a choice between re-signing Humphries or Wallace. Nets would certainly need to free up space. And that's where the TPE would come into play.
