That was painful to watch. Collier with a nice game and Key, Martin and Springer held their own. The Rockets only played 8 guys.

I really love Filipowski, but he might be the worst interior defender I've ever watched. He really has to make some massive improvements in his ability to defend. Maybe even more than Collier has to as a shooter, or Keyonte as a defender.

I think he knows that. Now will he put in the work or will he do it like Jimmer did?

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. Do you think it's more likely that he can guard on the perimeter so he can play the 4 or defend the paint?

First year for Flip. Learning the ropes. Like rookies in general, he should improve as he gets stronger (esp. his legs) and gains experience. Idk, I hope so anyway because otherwise he's pretty versatile and has a lot going for him.

I dont think 4 is the answer. Rotating fast (= running) to close out corner/wing shooters while also being at least somewhat imposing help defender in the paint is why good defenders at 4 are usually super athletic. Athleticism is exactly what Flip lacks.

I think he can exist as a 4 with Kessler since Walker doesnt need that much help in the paint, which allows Flip to cheat towards the perimeter a bit more. However without Kessler or other dominant rim protector, Flip has to be the "big body in the paint" type of defender. I think defensive rebounding is actually the most impactful thing he should aim to improve in the short term.
