That is so disrespectful to Schwayze bro.
It seems to me that the Jazz name is only showing up around OJ Mayo and that looks like a long shot and big $$$$$. It seems like every other free agent the Jazz are not mentioned. I realize CP3 and Dwight aren't coming to SLC but it seems like the front office is being a tad timid.
Lol. Timid has nothing to do with it. Being a small market team and SLC has everything to do with it. Who wants to report news from good ol' Deseret?
Please, rep now.
Also free agency has been open for what, 17 hours? Relax.
Who is Parker?
I would be OK with 2 options.
1. Jazz stay away from the best free agents and sign people like Tinsley that can support the core being bult. Hand the youth the reigns and let them lead the team.
2. Jazz go strong after all the best free agents and make a real effort to build a championship contender immediately.
There is no way #2 is happening in this offseason so the Jazz should go with #1 and play the hell out of Burke, Burks, Hayward, Kanter, Gobert and Favors. Let them get comfortable with each other, let them gel. Fleece teams at the deadline with one goal in mind, 2014 draft picks. Then go after as high a pick as you can get with the assets on hand. Get that last puzzle piece (would love a shot at those SFs in 2014) and go for gold.
Favors/Gobert
Kanter/Evans
Parker/Carroll
Hayward/Burks
Burke/Neto
Sweet Lord Almighty...
This is what you do if you are Utah:
Go young, go cheap. Then, at the end of December, see where Favors, Kanter and Hayward have taken you. If you are in the playoff race, go get some good, quality vets, knowing that those three are enough to get you to the promised land with the right vets around them. If they suck, stay the course, get another great piece, add vets in the offseason, make a decision on Favors vs Kanter, etc.
Pretty simple stuff.
The worst thing the Jazz can do right now is overpay for someone that will hamper them in the future (Ostertag and AK).
Agreed, except regarding AK. At the time the Jazz signed him to that deal, Kirilenko was a highly unique player for his overall ability on both ends of the floor. Pau Gasol signed a max deal that summer as well, and Kirilenko was as shade below him offensively, but much better defensively. He was also a match-up nightmare. Long story short, Gasol dictated the market and AK got his deal as a result. To me, it seemed a no-brainer at the time.
