What's new

Are we appreciating the FO enough?

You didnt answer the question.

The point was you dont want to add "that guy" as your first piece. Youd rather add him with a foundation already in place.

Wemby might next season be too good already for SAS to get another top pick. And if they get 1 more, I would bet thats the last one.
We’ll see if the FO is brave enough to tank properly to get “That guy” next season.

If we do, I’ll appreciate the FO.

If we don’t, then no.

Rather than take swings with the capspace during a youth movement you should be taking on bad contracts for draft capital.
Taking in reclamation projects is a valid strategy for bad teams. You may prefer the other option personally, but both are still valid.

Some of y'all are unbearable.

Not that we should be throating the FO, but they have done a damn great job.

It's not the 2010's anymore. You only get second rounders for taking on bad contracts.

Since the Jazz basically don’t have any and have to get to the salary floor, I think that’s absolutely fine. They’re not going to be able to rent the space forever anyway.

Nah.

While recognizing long term, there is flexibility, but they have obviously not been super straight with fans and the team. That's inexcusable, and the reason why so many were rightfully pissed the last trade deadline.

It's fine when you don't have a bunch of young talent but I would rather give our youngsters consistent minutes over some vet reclamation project.

FO has done well on the big things. Some of the smaller quibbles I don’t love are less important. No need to crush them or worship them.

Lmao shut up. The FO job is not to tell fans what is going on in real time

You been one of the most vocal guys in repeating that we lack young talent, so color me confused here.

Too early to tell. The haul they got for Mitchell/Gobert was good, long way to prove out that it was the right decision to blow it up in the first place.

So imagine we make the most passive plan ever and decided to just hold the roster as it is for 2 years with only major moves outside of draft being Lauri and Sexton R&E to frontloaded contracts. That would also result in two additional high picks as the team is not currently constructed to compete in the West.

In that scenario, 2 years from now we could have
- Lauri and Sexton tied up to team friendly contracts for the next 3-4 years
- Top prospect (own pick) from 2026 entering his rookie year
- Top prospect (own pick) from 2025 entering his sophomore year
- Two other prospects from 2025 using Cleveland and Minny picks entering year 2
- Walker and Lofton entering year 5
- Key, TH and Brice entering year 4
- Cody, Collier and Flip entering year 3
- Plenty of cap space with both JCs out at that point, Lauri and Sexton on those assumed friendly deals and so many rookie contracts in the books
- all the picks we currently own in 2027 and beyond, plus any we might add along the way, so plenty of assets. That means all our own picks and 5 picks from LAL, Minny and Cleveland combined (all 5 extra picks in 2027 and 2029, few of them lightly protected).

Even if we cannot deal JCs for positive return, they will be FA and out of the building at that point giving us 40M cap room for that offseason.

Obviously there will be changes in the roster and trades made during that time period, so that isnt actually what we will have, but its still pretty impressive. I feel like we are not giving the FO the flowers they deserve.
I agree that we're really well set up, but I hope that the '25 pick will go to OKC and be ~18-20 and that we'll be a 6-10 seed this year. I want a real playoff series again.
