What's new

As of today, is it fair to doubt the organization's commitment to the playoffs next year?

NAOS can be very readable and entertaining. JazzFanz version of the Underground Man.
Sounds like a back-handed compliment

Rudy is the result of good decisions, e.g. being aggressive in the draft, stockpiling assets, great preparation. Rudy was lucky, but not an accident.

The Lakers had the opportunity to draft #2 and grab probably the best player in the draft, Okafur, and drafted Russell instead, all because they were banking on luring LA. They put all their eggs in one basket thinking Kobe, their current roster, the LA life, and a #2 pick would net a star in FA. It didn't and won't.

Had the Jazz held on to Deron and tried to compete and rebuild further, we'd be in the cellar with the Lakers.

I called the Russell pick weeks before it happened. Okafor is a terrific offensive player, but teams have come around to the fact that defense from the center position is absolutely critical. The only way around it is to find a defensive stud to play next to them, and teams tend to hang on to those guys. Not only that, but I think the Lakers FO knows that FAs are avoiding them until Kobe leaves, so they couldn't take it for granted that they'd be able to add a defensive stud in FA to play next to Okafor. Drafting Okafor to play next to Randle would have been a disaster defensively, so I don't see Russell as some big mistake.
.
I don't believe the Lakers' decision to draft Russell over Okafor was based on trying to compete this year, but more of a long term decision of not wanting to build on a weak defensive foundation.

My larger point is that it is entirely possible to discuss such matters without resorting to personal insults.

And yet you chose to make this point by highlighting only my posts -- a move that either forcefully ignores the volume poo-flinging that Dalamon has been engage in, or is ignorant of it. Do your research and see who you think should be the addressee of this moral point you want to make. You'll probably chose to address us both... which will be a funny Dad Moment.

I understand when discussing politics and policy (which have much greater stakes) that it inflames the passions and is thus more likely to devolve into shouting matches and insults. But such is not the case with low stakes, often highly hypothetical, discussions about Jazz FO strategy. This was a very interesting thread, and I was sorry and annoyed to see it degenerate into personal insults as it did. You are, by my casual observation, often the guilty party, or at least contribute to, Jazz threads turning personal, and I wish you would stop doing so. It would make it a more enjoyable experience for me and everyone else. Save your insults for the General forum.

If you're going to call me out like this, then be less casual about it. Look into it. Any rational human adult would expect that treatment. Casual tisk-tisks are ****ing stupid. We're adults.

You may also want to be less reductionistic about things. For example, you'd be wrong if you assumed this last round of Daltissy fits is isolated to feelings about the Utah Jazz. I'm not sure what he's going through, but he's carried the detritus from the General Discussion forum into this one.

The FO no doubt would prefer to make the playoffs next year, but at the same time, they realize that the window for this team to compete is just beginning to open. The FO will continue to prioritize the long-term until the team is on the verge of legitimately contending. I believe that DL & CO recognize that the roster may already be capable of making the playoffs as it currently stands, so unless a move too good to pass up comes along, I expect the FO to stand pat for the most part & re-evaluate the team come the trade-deadline. This FO has shown patience throughout the rebuild & that is unlikely to change now. I question this approach somewhat, due to Hayward's opt-out clause, but the good news is that, based on how we finished the season & the fact that we should have a full-season of a healthy Burks & Hood, we have a great chance to actually make the playoffs without making another significant addition.

Post of the week. Kind of curious as to what my label is.

I take that back, as there are a few variations of my two labels. Quite a few people fall into usually not a dick but sometimes a dick when they are wrong and don't like to have it pointed out.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely on the dick list. So are you now for pointing it out.

Look you ****in ****er face! I don't need you to tell me I'm a dick. I don't need your permission to show up to the dick party, neither. I've been goin to dick parties since before you could even spell dick.
