At this point, what is your OPINION

I like him as a coach. He is serviceable but I don't think that he is the guy to be able to help the team get that elusive championship that this franchise desperately wants.
 
He had an OK season. He made some obvious mistakes. I am looking to see if he has improved this season. If he is making alot of the same mistakes then I will start to worry.

I'd give him a B.
 
My gut feeling/worry is that he is a good enough coach to avoid being fired, but not a good enough coach to lead us anywhere great, and that he will stick around for the next 8 years being mediocre.

He's done pretty well with the players and the situations he's been put in. I'm not concerned about the past. He needs to complexify the offense (add ways to get into sets) and commit to the defense he tried to install last year but didn't enforce. I'm not bursting with optimism that this will happen.

I'm still 50/50 .. I lie. I'm 55 not sold, 45 willing to be sold.

Offenses need not be complex. But it does need to include 3pt shooters, slashers, and some good passing. We'll see if a slightly upgraded shooting perimeter makes things click a bit better.

don't call it "complex" if you don't want to. Use another word, but we need more than 2 ways to get into our offense. If you don't believe me, then watch the tape of Popovich shutting down those bottlenecks.

I'm not arguing your point. But a team is somewhat limited without shooters. Pops had shooters.
 
I want to see some willingness to take bold risks. Not stupid meaningless risks but the kind where you say "We're going to do this or we're going to lose, but we're going to give it everything." So far what I've seen is him being pretty unsure and opting for the safe route, even when there is no way the safe route will get you where you need to be. In short, what UGLI said.

If we are continually dependent on an entry pass into the low-left block, and our shooters are asked to jack it with 3 seconds left on the shot clock from wherever they happened to catch a rushed pass (rather than a preferred spot), then I'm guessing we won't be that happy with the brand of basketball the Jazz are playing.

You're just trying to argue without arguing. The jazz need MORE OFFENSE. By "more offense," I mean more wrinkles and faster decision making. You know, "jazz basketball.""

I have to agree with this. He did some things early that drove me crazy, and made say "what are you doing". But he improved on many of those things late. He is what he is, a first time coach replacing a legend. Overall I give him a B+.
 
This is Corbin's year to be fairly judged. As was pointed out, last year was difficult with no training camp and the final months of 10-11 should not be held against him. If Favors is still getting 20 minutes a game and sitting in the 4th quarter while Pal Jeffersap is out there avoiding the free throw line, not boxing out for rebounds, and opening the lane for easy baskets, then I'll be calling for Corbin's head.
