What's new

At what point is it time to get off Trey Burke's !~@#$#

what a funny thread. he's played well in 4 of 6 games early on. That's good and we'll take it as Jazz fans, but the thought that 4 games would change anyone's overall opinion of a guy is laughable.

Trey is a gifted offensive player, top 3 on the team if you ask me. However he isn't your typical pg and a pass first one that we all man crush over. He is much better than Neto hands down. Trey just needs to have the freedom to be Trey, If it isn't with us he will put up strong numbers offensively where he gets the chance to play his style of game.

Treys start is encouraging. Hasn't had that stinker game and has had some really good moments on defense. He also seems quicker. He used to drift on his jumper a bit and I haven't seen that. If this is close to what we get then he's a great bench pg.

If u want to watch both games at the same time. What u do is put both on dvr then switch back and forth u don't miss a thing. That's what I did last night.
This

Trey will get more comfortable with the system and will become more successful, give him some more time,

That first game qualifies as a stinker. And his defense was atrocious. Made Steve Blake look ten years younger, but has been much improved since.

Trey is a guy who can shoot on a team of guys who can't shoot.

Rodney Hood needs to step up his 3 pointer game badly. I think he might have worked on his off the dribble game too much and possibly ignored his off-ball catch and shoot game. I like his ability to score off the dribble, but Alec/Gordon are both better since they can draw fouls. We need Hood to be an upper tier spot up threat.

I like that Alec is taking some of his open attempts now.

I sure as hell hope he learned the system last year. What the hell does that even mean?? Are u saying he still doesn't know what's going on??

A system is never set in stone yet is evolving to implement other players and such. With every passing game he is getting a little more comfortable

Trey being Trey is what made the fans turn on him last year; 0-13, 2-16 -- Trey forcing shots for the Glory of Trey is what pissed us off. Trey operating within the Quin system -- playing D and being selective in his shots -- is the huge improvement he has shown so far this season. But has he really changed or will he revert? Let's see what happens over the next month.

What about his 0 point performance?

And yes, he still drifts on his jumper.

If he can sustain his current level of play through November, then we can talk. He needs to show he can shoot over 40% for an entire month for me to say he's genuinely improved.

Some key points on the Jazz/Trey situation and why it's unwise to run him out of town/overpay for a quick fix.

-The summer Trey's contract runs out, the draft is going to be loaded with PG's, like 2009(Not that there's any Curry - There will probably be a Lawson or Teague quality PG outside of the lottery though)..

-If there's looming chemistry or contractual issues with Trey, the Jazz will have plenty of good options. Plus he's restricted so if the best-case scenario happens they can keep him no matter what.

-I fail to see how next seasons salary of $3,386,000 is of any concern with the rising cap... It could potentially be a bargain.

-In the summer of 2017 there's the best bunch of unrestricted PG's ever: Derrick Rose, Chris Paul, Teague, Curry, Westbrook, Lawson, Jrue Holiday, Darren Collison, Patty Mills, George Hill, Kyle Lowry, Shaun Livingston and restricted players like Schroder, Carter-Williams, Oladipo, McCollum --- Trey's contract bridges the gap to that. So if he can play efficient minutes, he will serve his purpose and certainly won't be a bust, he'll be due for a raise.

Good points, but no mention of Exum?

I am pleasantly surprised by Trey's play this year. I think part of his problem has been mental, and I think we can thank Quin for not giving up on him despite his, at times, dreadful play, especially in the first game of the season. If he can continue to put effort on defense, distribute the ball, and make a good percentage of his shots, we can't ask for more. The fact is he has always been able to get his outside shot; the problem has been shot selection which has been poor, leading to misses and deflating his confidence. Now that he has his confidence back, let's hope it continues.

I'm a pretty regular passenger on the Trey'd Burke bandwagon but his party is certainly looking a bit encouraging. Would love to see it continue.

Agree.
He is playing with in the offense and generally taking much better shots. I don't see him chucking like he has done in the past. I've been a huge critic over the past two seasons but am pretty pleased and cautiously optimistic after 6 games. However, I still think Utah needs a starting PG. Trey might be a good backup, but Neto can't shoot. Raul needs to be 3rd string unless/until he figures out how to hit a 15 footer.

So he is in his 3rd year and you are seeing improvement. That is what supposed to happen. Some of you want instant success have never played a sport in your life and sit here online and judge players. Just enjpy the game and let the players deal with player development without every armchair qb here. Trey has been straight disrespected by majority of you. Yall realize that other players see this right ? Wonder why Jazz struggle in free agency. Its the location(no one wants to live in Utah) and the fans treat you like you are a piece of meat.

Whenever I read your posts it always shows on my screen as blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Weird.
