Never driven any of them, but the Benz is the best looking of that the bunch. Personally, in that 30-40 k range with no other considerations taken into account I would get a '08 or '07 Lotus Elise. I ****ing love those cars.

The Lotus Elise isn't in the 30-40K range. Not new anyway.

You and all the cast members of Mean Girls. Lotus makes the ****tiest looking sports cars that could only make a Japanime character proud to drive.

Haha....They do look pretty iffy and the guy I know that has one has the Orange version too so it's about as sketchy looking as it can get. But like I said, taking no considerations, nothing at all besides price and fun factor; not looks, not trunk space, not body space, not whether my ego could fit inside that car or not, I would get one because they are fun. But seeing how I would take in all those things to consideration were I to be car shopping for myself, I would never buy one. Hell, I still almost crash my car from laughing every time I see a Smart Car on the road. I'm mentally ill-equipped for the day when we're all going to be driving mini enviro cars around.

I considered all those cars and ended up with a Lexus IS350. I think you should have that car on your radar as well.

A well optioned IS350 actually costs less than well optioned 328i, believe it or not, and you get the benefit of 300 horses and added reliability.

The IS350 has been pegged by Road and Track with the following numbers -
0 to 60 in 4.9
1/4 mile in 13.5

Very, very strong numbers for a car in its class, probably second only to the BMW 335i (although this would cost an arm and a leg more than an IS350).

It should be noted that the IS350 only comes with a full automatic transmission. It does not have true paddle shifters or a true manual mode where you can choose gears. It's fully automatic. If that's a deal breaker to you, it's certainly something to note.

Personally though I just don't see the point in paying $5,000 more for a 328i that's less reliable and a virtual snail compared to the IS350. Of course if you have the coin to spend on a 335i, that'd be a better option, but price wise the IS350 really competes with the 328i.
