I received a letter from the IRS that I'm being audited because, 4 years ago, I received a $300 tax credit for paying too big a chunk of my employer-provided health insurance. Now I have to dig up through documents to prove to them that I did indeed make said payments. Along with documents from employer explaining why they didn't contribute more to the payments.

Thanks Obama!

Let's all cross our fingers that this audit on Siro solves the national debt crisis.

Well, all but Siro can cross their fingers for that outcome.

Nice, I got a letter from the American Community Survey just a couple days ago, I refuse to answer some of the questions that I've read, if not all. What a bunch of BS!

I've never been audited but I have been questioned. They sent my tax documents back in the mail requesting more documentation. I took my docs out of the envelop and put them in a fresh one and sent them to the return address. They never contacted me again.

The IRS is dumb.

My dad was audited like a decade ago. They said he owed something like 5 grand in back taxes. His accountant looked over his paperwork and the IRS ended up owing my dad about 3K or something.

Those that work for the IRS are far from the brightest bulbs. Most couldn't hack it in the corporate world and therefore have to settle for making measly earnings as a government employee.

I have all my records back to 1973. In a steel cargo box.

I expect to be audited, so I keep some legal deductions in reserve. When I am audited I'll start bringing in that stuff and file amended returns asking for more money back. Sure I pay too much tax, but I sleep good.

I received a letter 2 years ago from the IRS and they stated, I owed them almost $1,000.00 from a 1099 a hospital filed on me, from 3 or 4 years prior. I had no idea about the 1099 and worst part about it....I had a month to come with the full amount or continued to be billed at the 27-28 % interest. (which they also charged me for the prior 3 or 4 years.) That was honestly the scariest thing, opening the mailbox having a letter from the IRS. I paid it within there time frame and Always error on the side of the Government, when filing my taxes. Don't want a repeat of that!!!
