Game Thread August 30, 2020: Nuggets at Jazz - Game 6

Added to Calendar: 08-30-20

and that my friends is why i say in those draftees threads all the time "the step back j is the #1 most important move in the arsenal for guards"

It's because Snyder is an overrated coach. This is the peak of his iteration of the Utah Jazz. The sooner the Miller family realizes that the better. Look at what happened to the Raptors after they dumped Dwane Casey's *** for Nick Nurse. The Jazz need new blood. We can't risk not trying to make changes for Donny or he'll dip and go elsewhere.
I feel like Utah can do a whole lot worse than QS...

Also I dont like the idea of using a series like this to run him outa town... doesnt seem right

With Bojan out how can you truly isolate the head coach as the problem? he's been handed mostly the same tools that couldnt get the job done last year... and they've done a respectable job..

Two questions.

1. A healthy Jazz team last year, with Favors, Rubio, and Crowder, what would this series be?

2. A healthy Bojan, what would this series be?

Maybe 3 questions actually.

3. Are we actually better than last year? I realistically wonder if we actually took a step back by blowing our size and identity? Favors and Gobert would be killing Joker and Millsap inside. And I wonder if a longer Rubio would slow Murray down? Crowder providing that toughness that sometimes we lack.

The Rubio experiment didn't work. It was never going to work. How can anyone forget him airballing that 3 last year against houston in the playoffs.

The jazz took a calculated risk in getting Conly and for the most part it backfired. I was screaming for the jazz to go after Brogdon. I was wanting the Jazz to get Grant. The jazz needed to get longer, younger, and more athletic... not extend Ingles, sign an old Bogey, and trade for an old Conley. It made no sense. That roster was never good enough to win a championship anyway. Why not build a younger core together with Donny? I just don't understand this front office.

A lot going on there. I think JC gives us something we really needed last year. I think we are better I just don't know why we were dead set on bringing in a pg... especially one with Mike's size. Being short handed sucks... Wish we had Bojan. I think we'd have won it by now but its really too tough to say.

Did I say Conley played great D and locked down Morris? No. I said he wasn't the only one to blame and that at least he contributed on O (unlike Royce, Joe or JC...you may also look at Rudy this game).

My lenghty post was to tackle on a bigger issues, which is how the team is constructed. It's not fair to blame one guy and treat him like a scapegoat when there are more reasons why we lost this game (and you can say has been present throughout the season):
  • Bench sucks (especially when Clarkson is not hot)
  • Lack of perimeter defense. We don't have depth or the personnel.
  • Not athletic/long enough. A unit with Joe, Niang, JC, Bradley and Conley on the floor is not gonna cut it.

Your last post I quoted just didn’t seem to emphasize strongly enough what a sieve Conley has been. That’s all. I agree with everything in this post.

We will see how much fight our guys have left. Will be interesting to see if some of the guys mail it in... Joe's gotta be missing his family and the guys have been through the ringer emotionally. I don't think Rudy or DM are ready to go home.

Ingles is playing like he wants to go home.
Thought he was okay... we didn't move the ball tonight... when you have Mike, DM, and JC out there creating he doesn't get to touch the ball much. He had the huge sequence to end the half then was kind of a ghost. Was much better on defense tonight but it didn't matter in the end.

Makes one wonder if the reason we were so good previous years on defense is because we had Favors to play along side Rudy. Sure makes me wonder after this season without him.

I don’t think it is just Favors:

On defense,
Rubio > Conley
Ingles (then) > Ingles (Now)
Favors > Bogey
Bench:
Crowder, O’Neal, Exum, Neto > Clarkson, O’Neal, Niang, Mudiay

This year’s squad is much better at shooting, but worse across the board of defense.

If you have the DPOY, you should put good defenders around him. Otherwise, what’s the point of having him. One player, no matter how great, is not enough to make a team good defens

So DM and Jamal are both 1 made 3 pointer away from tying the single series record for threes in a series.

DM needs 52 to tie the record for most points in a series. So go get 53 and a win please.

this is especially true for those who wanna trade Rudy: our current lineup is in the worst position to let him go. we'd literally be giving up 150 points a night if we are to lose Rudy right now.

Jamal Murray, one of the most inefficient scorers in the NBA is 31 for his last 41. That is 75%. Jesus.
That’s the biggest part of the problem... I keep waiting for him to have a 2/9 from three night and it just ain’t happening.
The bubble effect maybe? I don't think Donovan is normally this efficient either.

I mean the **** we are seeing in this series is unprecedented right?

I think all three situations we would be similarly good. I think bojan being the x factor that might make the real difference.

My problem with the series right now has more to do with the way the nuggets have defended us. Clearly we didn't care about taking anything away from them the first 4 games. That hasn't changed.

But in the last 6 quarters they changed up their defense and we haven't had an answer. We scored a lot fewer points.

Lastly, we don't look inspired. No swagger. We look confused and soft. Tonights game felt like a loss in the first quarter based on body language alone.

I’m not sure at who’s expense, but I’d like Morgan to start again ... guard Jokic ... when they switch he has a better chance of guarding Murray than Gobert , plus it gives us better rebounding and a bigger body ...

I think I’d bench Joe and slide Royce to the 3

Told you guys Niang would let us down. I gave props for his good game, but overall he's NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Royce a good rebounder, but what else does he bring to the table night after night? NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Bradley - fine for end of the bench, but not a rotation player right now, probably not ever. NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Ingles - old and washed. Couldnt guard a trash can, isn't scoring. NOT GOOD ENOUGH

We don't have a legit lock down defender.

I applaud the office for trying this offseason, but Conley didn't work out like planned, nor Green or Davis.

Our bench is garbage. Why not let Oni, Morgan, JWF, NWG and Brantley have a lot of minutes for game 7. At least they might try, play some D and hustle. Jerry is weeping tonight.

I feel like those guys have more raw talent than our current bench. Game 7 isn't the place to unload all these guys with little experience. One or two slight changes maybe in order. I'm DONE with NIANG and Bradley completely.

People done forgot how good he was.
Yep. You can't just replace 20 PPG and another sharp shooter the other teams defense must pay attention to. And he wasn't nearly as bad in all the other areas as everyone makes him out to be, passable at least. We could definitely have used his scoring, no doubt.
