Bergdahl story

One of those "camel jockeys" you refer to is responsible for killing up to 2000 civilians. But that seems like a good trade, no? Let's move that guy right back into the 'hood. I find it very humorous how most of the people commenting on this are just idiotically uninformed. Also, the president flat out broke a law voted into place by a Democratic Congress THAT HE SIGNED in order to make this deal. But, at this point, what difference does it make anyway. . .

If true I was not aware of that.

As for the civilian killing. That is terrible but what were the other options for him? Enternal encarceration? No thank you Execution in Gitmo? Far preferable for the American pocket book than eternal incarceration. Also link?

I see the whole "no negotiating with terrorists" argument. Did we know his location? Was rescue a viable option? If not is the only problem the # of people we gave back? or the exact individuals we gave back? These terrorists all have horrible back stories and what is the difference betwwen 10,000 and 10,005 terrorists in an area we are leaving anyways?

Also if we are going to pretend that we are suddenly concerned with civilian deaths overseas then why arn't American forces at war by the 100,000s in Africa and China?

I don't fault them for getting Berghdahl back. Perhaps they could have done it in a better way though.

@UGLI - you do have a good point with the precedent it set. Risky business but isn't all of it?

Lol, Afghanistan is a large country brah. With Gps trackers in their peckers a drone could take care of them by this weekend.

I get that. My point being is that we know exactly what they are going and if the plan is to take them out then there will be plenty of chances before they disappear. Drone strike the truck they drive away form the exchange in once our guys are in the clear.

That already didnt happen. But it should have.

I'm not too political and mostly avoid news because the media sucks. But this latest story seems like the Republicans' new fetish to attack Obama about. Can someone provide cliffs?

cus obama is a tool, a joke.
and only president because of affirmative action, reverse racism, and populism

What makes me madder than the Bergdahl story is the Tahmooresi story. Why in all holy hell have we not gotten him home yet? Insane.

Well, as somebody that doesn't believe politics is much more than a PR game......that's all this looks like to me. Why now? With how happy the Taliban seems with the swap, it's kind of obvious this dude could have been home years ago if a similar offer was made. Seems like the VA medical issues got to them and they felt like they needed something positive involving Vets to take the heat off. They basically completely trash veterans in every "Domestic Terrorist" warning or paper that comes out. Their contempt for them is obvious and they aren't fooling anybody.

There's no question that those guys will go back to fighting in the Middle East and get more bodies connected to their name. I think the bigger issue here in US though is the Illegals that are convicted of serious crimes that the system just releases back onto the streets.

I'm guessing they said it's because Obama?

Of course they did. In Utah everything is Obama's fault. If it rains it's Obama. Dead lawn? Obama. You got the flu? Obama.

I am not looking to lay blame as much as wonder why we can get a deal done with the Taliban but not Mexico?

I bet that soldiers friends and family are glad that they negotiated for his release..... as well as the soldier himself.

Seems like alls well that ends well to me, and so far this has turned out tk be a happy ending

Unless you or your family in Afghanistan is on the enemy list of the five dudes that just got released. Then you are in a world of hurt. But screw 'em for being camel jockeys. They should have been born somewhere else and then they wouldn't be in danger. Also, they brought this upon themselves for sending their girls to school.

Oh spare us the drama.

Glad he is back, regardless of how it happened. Would be curious to see what other options they had or even discussed for getting him though.

On the flip side there are those people that, if Obama walked out of the White House one day and shivved Joe Biden while laughing hysterically, would say "Remember that time when Cheney shot his friend in the face? Republicans do it too! And Obama has been under a lot of pressure. . ."

But yeah, the guy in Mexico would have been a better save than the deserter.

You are right there are. Doesn't make it any less idiotic or any more justifiable.

Was the guy your brother? Would you have released Josef Mengele to get him back? Because, yeah, it's kind of like that. But I don't want to bore you with "Drama."

Wow bro. Incredibly naive take.

This is not a Disney movie.
