Bergdahl story

I want an America that is not "special interests" where ordinary people have real opportunity.

The world doesn't need one babe, it just needs oh about fifty million people who see that their lives are being dismantled, who are willing to act in their own interests.

"Special interests" are those 50 million people "acting in their own interests" together.

I've seen the EPA subverted into an enforcement agency that does nothing serious about big polluters "in the loop" politically while shutting down smaller operations aka "the competition". Clearly it's design and function is to enforce monopolist economics, sometimes fearful of even suggesting improvements to larger corporations with staffs of lawyers bigger than JazzFanz. It's nothing about "clean air", it's all about shutting down onshore industry while winking at American corporate cartelists who have the means to just locate their plants next ot their slave labor market du jour.

This is how I see the EPA as it exists today. I think Ralph Nader would agree as well, tbh. He was actually on NPR today speaking about what liberals and libertarians agree on. "...we disagree on A,B,C, and D but we agree on W,X,Y,Z so let's focus on W,X,Y,Z"

So the people actually receiving the prisoners(after their Qatari "house arrest" period is up) and the ones that had him captive are not the same people apparently. They're loosely affiliated, which means the US government probably funneled cash or some kind of store of cash(diamonds) on top of the prisoner swap in the exchange.

These are the guys that had him in capture:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haqqani_network

Not the same thing as the Taliban which was kind of the assumption everybody was going with. The Taliban got the 5 commandos, the US their guy. Haqqnis.....nothing attributed to them. Unlikely they would keep the guy for all this time and then take a pat on the back as their compensation for letting him go.

This is their game, from the wiki:

The New York Times reported in September 2011 that the Haqqanis have set up a "mini-state" in Miranshah with courts, tax offices and madrassas, and that the network runs a series of front companies selling automobiles and real estate. They also receive funds from extortion, kidnappings and smuggling operations throughout eastern Afghanistan.[11] In an interview a former Haqqani commander called the extortion "the most important source of funding for the Haqqanis."

So it's probably a safe guess that their side of the deal was cash. But of course it wouldn't show out being through the US in any case. It's not like they wired them the money straight from Obama's personal bank account. They would have somebody in the Middle East pay the money, and figure out some way to kick it back/a favor back that nobody would notice. Or use something like diamonds that the Haqqanis could easily sell.

Thanks.

Seeming more and more worth it to bring this dood home.

Why would you think their cash came from the US, as opposed to the Taliban?

That's certainly a possibility. Or maybe they got a small slice of the opium trade or something. I'm just taking the viewpoint that it was the US that sweetened the deal right now to get it done ASAP because that's what it looks like to me. But of course, I have no clue really. I just thought was the most interesting side note between day 1 and now. And money is not inconsequential to the Taliban. The US is basically worth as much as it wants to be.

Him not wanting to talk his parents is interesting too. He's probably a psychological mess right now, but that still seems weird.

What's sad is how the right wing media is now trashing his family.
Suddenly his dad is a Taliban sympathizer? Really foxnews?

I'm just glad that the military has taken its time and not rushed to any conclusions. If only the public in general would take that approach.

Well he looks like a total douche, we should have left him there just to keep him out of the american gene pool.
