I've always liked Scotland Yard.
Ticket to Ride: "Ticket to Ride is a cross-country train adventure in which players collect and play matching train cards to claim railway routes connecting cities throughout North America (<---there are other versions). The longer the routes, the more points they earn. Additional points come to those who can fulfill their Destination Tickets by connecting two distant cities, and to the player who builds the longest continuous railway."
Bohnanza: "is about planting, trading and selling 11 different kinds of beans. Players try to collect and plant various types of beans to sell for gold. There are always new beans to plant and each player has limited growing space. To avoid planting unwanted beans, players trade amongst themselves in an effort to plant the bean of highest value and collect the most coins."
Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot: "is a fast paced, action filled card game, in which you must try to keep as many Bunnies alive as possible, while eliminating your opponents’ Bunnies.
The problem: Your opponents are armed with weapons and will stop at nothing to keep you from winning the game, which can be dreadfully vengeful, horribly nasty, hilariously messy, and just plain fun!
Can you keep from being attacked by the whimsical Whisk or the torching Flame Thrower? Defend your Bunnies with the Magic Spatula or use the Feed the Bunny card to starve our an opponent! It’s off-the-wall strategic fun where the goal is to survive and claim the Magic Carrot to win the game!"
The Farming Game: you act the farmer and you have your yearly harvesting and pay out your operating expenses, and sometimes get your farmer fates all the while trying to become the richest farmer (sorta like monopoly)
Wise or Otherwise: you are given the first part of sayings from all over the world...different cultures...and you are supposed to finish the saying in order to get other people to pick your version as the right one. It is kinda like the game Balderdash...where you make up a definition of rare word.
Guillotine: "The French Revolution is famous in part for the use of the guillotine to put nobles to death, and this is the macabre subject of this light card game. As executioners pandering to the masses, the players are trying to behead the least popular nobles. Each day the nobles are lined up and players take turns killing the ones at the front of the line until all the nobles are gone. However, players are given cards which will manipulate the line order right before 'harvesting,' which is what makes the game interesting. After three days worth of chopping, the highest total carries the day."
Racko: "Like many card games, Rack-O is part skill, part luck of the draw. Two to four players try to get their rack of 10 cards in consecutive order, from lowest to highest, first."
I like Ticket to Ride for the long term strategy, but it takes less than an hour to play
I like Bohnanza for the trading that has to happen between players
I like Killer Bunnies just for the whole concept...it can get too complicated when you add additional decks.
The Farming Game is a good teaching tool.
Wise and Otherwise is amusing for the sayings/proverbs you learn and what people come with up with as alternatives...the closer you get to six players the better
Rack-o is fast and easy
The game length on guillotine is perfect and I'm amused by the concept
