Let's get the obvious out of the way: Of course Cleveland/Minny losing would be great as it would cause changes that could result in worse future outcomes and just generally signals their future might be worse than projected.

But who else losing early, and losing spectacularly, would benefit the Jazz?

Could the Jazz make a play for Zion if they lose due to him being injured in the lost season another year?

Could they get Giannis if they get swept?
 
I think we have to look at it from another angle: If OKC fails miserably, will they get desperate and throw everything at us to get Lauri? Will Minnesota do something really stupid, like double down and just keep the same team around, if they get bounced early?
 
Boston losing before the conference finals could mean Brown gets moved.

I don't think Dallas or Milwaukee move Luka or Giannis. I do think Bucks could move Dame if they flame out. Not sure if we'd be in there.

Phoenix Minny has repercussions but not sure it has a big effect on us outside of the obvious. I just think that series is the one I watch most in the first round.

Clips getting bounced with PG as a FA is something but not sure we get in there but if he bounces then those picks OKC owns get spicy real quick.

What does Miami do if they aren't competitive? Please say we aren't in on Herro still... but maybe.

Basically a bunch of teams will be quite unhappy with how things shake out. Next few weeks are pretty fun.
 
For getting high bids on Lauri: OKC, SAC, NYK and IND. Maybe Orlando.

For getting "big splash" trade targets: MIN, ATL, DAL, MIL, NOP, PHI. Some because their stars might force their way out (MIL, PHI, DAL), some because what they have aint working (NOP, ATL), and Minny for the owner/salary things.

Miami also has Jimmy Butler contract year coming up and we know Cleveland is also in that train with Don. Both may consider making moves.

Others are old and committed and/or poor. Except Chicago who are just stupid.
 
The Pels are a tax team who will likely make moves if they don't make a real run this year. The rumor as early as last fall was that they might be willing to move Brandon Ingram. Ingram, if he stays healthy, is potentially the type of versatile big guard the Jazz currently lack. (No disrespect to Brice.) If I were the Pels I'd be trying to get off of McCollum, but that's a tough contract to move.

Interestingly, the Pels are also expected to lose Valanciunas in FA. If they could get a cheaper replacement that would help their cause. That adds another reason why they might make a call to the Jazz.
 
The Hawks could make all kinds of moves to fashion a team that Snyder prefers. As it is, they're likely going to trade Capela in the final year of his deal. They're probably going to trade either Dejounte or Young, depending on the offers they get. Hunter and Bey could possibly be had if the price is right.
 
Would be hard to trade Giannis emotionally, but they painted themselves into a corner but if they hit the eject button now they can get a great haul for their aging assets
 
If Giannis hits the market then I think Houston is the likely top bidder. They can put together quite the package of young pieces and future picks. I can't imagine they even think about moving Giannis though since they have no control over any of their future picks.

This is a great topic. There will be some moving parts available this year, but I think the FO has to play this right and take into account that there will likely be more shakeups next year.
 
I think Giannis trade is another year away. I think they play it out a year and then would ask for a top 3-4 pick next year as the prime asset to move him. This assumes they don’t look like contenders next couple years.

with Zion's injury they're likely done I'd be stunned if they run it back

I dont know about that. He already hinted on wanting out last year and has made multiple quotes this year about how "every needs to be fully commited".... and see what they have done over the past 12 months.

almost fired equipment manager

Bud getting fired was already strongly linked to Giannis, as was Griffin being fired. Giannis also was the one going for the equipment manager but he obviously had a stronger foothold in the organization than those coaches.

Right but he signed the extension when he didn’t need to… if he’s hurt and they lose how is he gonna blame that on others. I think the bucks pick situation is such that they will do everything possible first. Giannis also isn’t the type to demand out and likely is aware of his reputation and likely not excited to tarnish it. The Bucks likely try and end up being a year too late in trading Giannis rather than a year too early.

He has always liked to put pressure on the FO.. but its just that their actions recently have seemed much more drastic and shortsighted.
