Thanks.
I’m pretty sure I’ve only read Apt Pupil which I loved. It’s been 20 years but from what I recall, I felt like it really captured what can happen to impressionable kids. Sort of ahead of its’ time in that sense when you think about school shootings and the interwebz and how dumbass ideologies can lead to tragedy. I still remember the last half page or so where the kid just sets up with some sort of sniper’s rifle, overlooking the LA freeway during pm rush hour, the sun setting, the kid picking off one person, then another, then another, as sirens wailed in response. Or something like that. The movie completely butchered it.
Is Tommyknockers the one in Alaska with four friends, one of whom is the guy from Homeland and Billions? The movie sucked. Or is that Dreamcatcher?
I’ve seen that SLJ/Cusack flick. It was mediocre.
The other films based on his books I’ve seen are: Shawshank, Stand by Me, Christine, Cujo, The Shining, Firestarter (have no recollection though), Carrie, The Dead Zone, Pet Cemetery, Creepshow, Cat’s Eye, Maximum Overdrive, The Running Man, Misery, Sleepwalkers, Silver Bullett, The Lawnmower Man, Thinner, Secret Window, The Mist, It part one, The Dark Tower, and Gerald's Game.
I think that’s it. I’ve never seen CotC if you can believe that.
Dreamcatchers is the one you were thinking of, not tommyknockers and dreamcatchers is one of my favorites. Great book. One book to look into is called different seasons and it has 4 "novellas" in it. Apt pupil is one, stand by me (its actually called The Body) and shawshank redemption (actually has a different title in the book) are 2 of the others in it.
So i have tried to compile a top 10. Not an easy task but here goes.
1. Cell (not a very popular book of king fans but I love it. Read it 3 or 4 times. Kind of a different take on zombies)
2. Green Mile
3. Under the Dome
4. The Stand (this book is long as hell so beware)
5. Revival (maybe my favorite ending of any of his books)
6. Black House (this book is kind of a sequel to another good book called The Talisman so you would want to read that one first)
7. 11/22/63 (This one is about the JFK assassination and its an amazing historical book. Kinda long but very good)
8. Needful Things (great ending)
9. The Institute (his latest offering. Lots of heart in this book)
10. Insomnia
Books that almost make the cut: Bag of bones, Dreamcatcher, The Talisman, It, Salems lot, firestarter, tommyknockers.
P.S. I LOVE the Dark Tower books. All 8 of them. If you were really going to go full Stephen King then you would need to read that series as most of his books (probably like 80%) have some sort of tie in to The Dark Tower series. I have read the whole Dark Tower Series multiple times.
If you want my recommendation on one Stephen King book to read that will make you want more it would be Under The Dome. Go with that one. Great all around book. Fast paced. Great charachters. Great plot. Relatable. and I liked the ending (some didn't like the ending though.)
Edit:Another movie you have to see (probably the best King movie) is The Green Mile. Great actors all over the place and just a great movie. I did like The Mist in book form too. It was short story in one of his many many compilation books iirc.
As for my book list i put in this post..... 11/22/63 has a movie with James Franco, Cell is a movie, under the dome is a tv show, The institute is being made into a movie or show, they are still making more dark tower related stuff, there is a needful things movie, tommyknockers movie, The stand movie,..... Damn near everything he touches end up being a movie or tv show and usually sucks lol.
