Absolutely love this site. Astute travelers may already be familiar with this gem, but plenty are not. Trust it. If it tells you to wait, prices DO drop. I travel at least twice per month and find this tool very reliable. Just a tip from one traveler to another.

What's the best deal you've personally ever gotten?

Also, does anybody know what's wrong with all these Russian airlines? Whenever I look at flights, there always some Russian plane flying for like half price to everywhere. Is it like the cartoon Tale Spin where you ride on a ****ing hoverboard being pulled outside the vehicle by a rope or something? Or you coop up with animals? I just don't understand how other airlines even exist if those guys can fly that cheaply.

I held out on a flight to NYC last week. I followed it from December and it kept telling me to hold off. Started at 379 on virgin. Bought it for 259 two and a half weeks prior. Google travel is coming out with some powerful tools as well.

The best flights are having your brother be a pilot for Delta so then you can fly for free whenever you want. Works well for me.

I think I have a new - foolproof- metric for being happy with the travel "deals" I get. If you watch the Price is Right every trip they give away is like worth a min of $6000 or something. They send you to Aspen- $6000. Salt Lake City - $6000. Mexico City - $7238. Paris - $82346. etc. A monkey could book the same trip, at the same hotels, with the same flights, with the same amenities for much less. Therefore, if that's my standard, satisfaction is always guaranteed. It's brilliant.

Better yet, be a pilot yourself, not be limited to just passenger flights. I fly on (but don't work for) FedEx & UPS ...as well as nearly all airlines (for free), works great, and you don't have to deal with people. Boxes don't wanna chat it up for hours when all you wanna do is get some shut eye.
Jazz switched their charters couple years ago from Swift Air out of Phoenix to Delta, Swift Air posts their charter schedule & contact info on their website and allows jumpseaters (pilots from other airlines) to ride on their flights. That would have been the ultimate free ride.
