What's new

Best stuff on Netflix

I need to check those out, always looking for a new series to binge watch.

Speaking of which, watched the entirety of the first season of True Detective when we went to Germany (mostly on the plane, but also because German TV sucks) and I really liked it. It did hit a point where it was just kind of dragging and seemed like they were making it dark just for the sake of being dark, but I liked the way they wrapped it up at the end and I thought it was a very solid performance from both Harrelson and especially McCohnahghey. But I found ugly-*** Woody Harrelson's ability to score the hottest asses on the planet just on a whim more than a bit implausible, but it did make for some nice scenes to watch.

Maconahey was the **** in TD. one of the best performances I have ever seen.

The young chick with the big **** that woody was ****ing was way too hot for woody to land...... who cares doe?

True Story. When I rewatched TD a second time, MsSerp was in the room. I had her literally see how amazing that chick's **** were. Like literally some of the best of all-time. Asked her if she thought they were real and she believed so.

The Wire and Mad Men are two others imo.

The "core four" of that particular discussion are usually acknowledged to be Sopranos, The Wire, Mad Men, and Breaking Bad. That's essentially the gauntlet that any new show potentially held up as the GOAT has to crack in mainstream critical opinion.

I believe Mad Men is clearly the worst of that bunch for a whole variety of reasons. It is certainly the one that has lived the longest past its creative peak. If a show gets kicked out of the fourth slot that'll be the one.

Should I give Breaking Bad another shot? I watched the first six episodes of season one about a year and a half ago. It was good but didn't leave me dying or even really wanting to watch more like those other shows did and I didn't necessarily find anything about it to be great--not the storyline, not the acting, not the cinematography, not the depth or substance of it.

I admit it is a bit slow at first, but it is one of those shows that literally builds throughout the entire run. Season 3 and 4 were masterpiece level to be sure. Season 5 was good, but not quite at the level of the 2 seasons before, and the ending was somewhat polarizing for fans. In my house we were split 2-2 as to whether we felt the end was a good denouement for the series. I think you should give it another shot. Commit to season 1 and if it still doesn't get you hooked then it just isn't your cup of tea, like me and the Sopranos. I watched the first season and found myself falling asleep during some episodes. Meh whatever. But it's worth a second look if you didn't even make it through season 1.

The HBO series? It's on Netflix? Hell yes watch it. That show ****ing rules.

Don't know if it is on Netflix. I have no access to it since I don't live in USA but this thread seems like a good place where I can get recs and talk about TV series. I am off the watch it then.

It's classic HBO as in sex, nudity, and violence. Just FYI. Such a kickass show though.

I have no idea why you're screwing around with these small murder mystery shows when Breaking Bad is just sitting there waiting for you.

IMO the best tv drama ever. It does start slow but honestly if you didnt like the first 6 episodes maybe its not for you. I was hooked by then. It does get better but I was hooked.

I watched the first season of Mad Men and did not get the excitement for it. The show was too slow for me and nothing made me want to watch the next episode. Not saying it was a bad show, it seems well done just too depressing and slow for me. I would not include this with the others on this list imo. It does get views and lots of people love it so maybe its just me.

I think anyone who decides to try to watch breaking bad has to at least give it until gus and mike show up.
If they still don't like it, then give up on it
