What's new

Best stuff on Netflix

I don't need likeable characters if the show is good and people in it seem real. Gomorrah series are the best example of that, depressing but damn good. I haven't seen much talk about that one here.

Forced to finally watch Ozark due to Covid. Start of season 2 so far.

While it's not a home run, it's still a pretty decent line drive for a triple.

I'm not the best critic as I tend to look for reasons to like things and I also am a "completionist" and will keep watching shows until I finish them.

I did like The Kingdom, finished it a couple weeks back, watched both seasons in about a week. For me how quickly I finished it tells me that had to be good and not just okay or I wouldn't have wanted to make time keep watching and finish so quickly. To me there are some cultural and language differences like needing subtitles that prolly take a little away then if I spoke Korean but that can be said for most any foreign show.

I missed reading a few pages so if I missed someone mentioning this I aplogize.

The new season of The Last Kingdom comes out tomorrow I believe, hadn't logged into Netflix in about a week. That is one of my favorite Netflix series to date, granted you probably have to enjoy that style of show, which I do but I would put in my top 5 probably top 3 Netflix series.

If you have not started it is one I would strongly recommend.

Bateman and all the other actors are solid, but every character was just very cookie cutter and flat.

But Season 2 got a lot better ratings, and I'm just wondering if they fixed those things or it just got bigger/crazier.
Season 2 was far worse, imo. I thought Season 1 got over the bar.
I have zero interest in season 3.

it looks like the recommendations have strayed from Netflix-only, so I’ll give a plug for Plot Against America (HBO). Not mind-altering, but solid.

Loved season one. Never got into two because I heard it was substantially worse. True? Did it regain its original form in season 3 or 4?

Oooh thanks for the heads up, The Last Kingdom has been one of my favorite shows in recent years.

I love Ozark, couldn't disagree more with you guys.

Now I'm watching "Waco". It's about a religious cult in Waco, TX. I've watched 2 episodes and it's entertaining enough to keep watching.
Disagree with what? I like it I like it. It's just not Breaking Bad good, but then what is? Jason Bateman is never gonna be Brian Cranston but he's still still pretty solid.

In my opinion it never came back to the level of the first season but I still enjoyed it. There were were still some interesting stories and characters in following seasons although you could sense that it's artificially kept alive like in 90% of the series nowadays..

Yeah I don’t recall character names but I thought it suffered a little (not a lot) from its protagonist who was slimily ****ing the family over. The guy with the wife and kid. Forget his name. As an actor he just didn’t bring much to the table. The best part was when the crime family’s son came back from being tortured in Honduras (somewhere in Latin America) a whole new looking person. Lost a lot of weight, mostly different personality. Still remember when his mother hears the gun shot at night and she goes out to the living room and he’s there, mohawk now and clearly demented, and says, “I should’ve killed you.” Great ****ing moment. The show took off from there. Ended great.

I loved Scissor Seven, it is a Chinese animated series. 14 episodes with a runtime of 10 to 15 minutes. It's mindless and juvenile fun, quite refreshing actually. Animation sequences and soundtracks are top-notch. Season 2 drops in May 7th.

Watched The Platform. Gives a new meaning to sloppy seconds. Interesting premise, but had mixed feelings on it. Also the english dub isnt ideal.

Watched Apostle. It’s basically The Wicker Man. Overall, pretty damn solid. Michael Sheen was great.
