Best stuff on Netflix

I decided to look at my Netflix "taste profile" and look at everything I'd rated five stars in the past couple of years that's still available to stream. Here's the list, starting with most recently rated.

Black Mirror
Still Mine
The Kids Are All Right
Sling Blade
Galaxy Quest
Django Unchained
Gandhi
Philadelphia
Inequality For All
Ordinary People
Samsara
Forrest Gump
Who Framed Roger Rabit
Luther
Orange is the New Black
The West Wing
Jackie Brown
Airplane!
Good Will Hunting
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
Seven
Kill Bill Vol. 2
Kill Bill Vol. 1

I'll stop there. Obviously most of these people will know about or have seen already, but there are a few more obscure things in there...

I've been going through House and West Wing from the start. Also currently going through Firefly.

Parks and Rec is great, although I don't think they have the last season or two yet.

Warehouse 13 is in the same boat--it's great but I think the last season or two are missing.

I believe all of Psych is there, my family totally loved that show.

One of the next series I'll tackle from the start is Doctor Who (well, from the 9th doctor onwards). I've seen a lot of them, but not all.

Black Adder is classic British comedy.

The Benedict Cumberbatch Sherlock episodes are amazing, in case anyone hasn't seen those yet.

I'm curious enough to check out Black Mirror.

Watched 2 episodes so far...

First one was OK, nothing special... but the 2nd episode / season 1, wow.. if you like deep/different/thought provoking stories then you've got to check it out. I loved it.

Let me know what you think.

Yeah the second episode is the one that sells people. The ending is just so perfectly Black Mirrorish. I actually really like the first episode, but it might be the weakest of the whole series, which is a testament to how good the rest are.

Just finished 3rd episode, it was good too... but it's the 2nd episode that sticks in my mind out of all 3 of the first season. It really spoke to me about what modern life has become, 'what's really REAL', and ultimately 'what are we doing and why are we here?'.

Can't get it out of my mind (yet).

The second episode is definitely haunting. I think Siro's criticism of the show--that the characters are often terrible people--doesn't apply to the second episode, where the two characters are really likable and we feel root for them. Which makes it so heartbreaking. The fourth episode, Be Right Back, is like that, too--I really like that one. The fifth, White Rabbit, is the most straight horror episode, I'd say, and it's really cool and disturbing.

Probably The Entire History of You (ep 3) is my favorite, or White Christmas. White Christmas might actually be my favorite. I don't know. So tough. And then I start thinking about the second episode and I wonder if that's my favorite...

Also, Robert Downy Jr. bought the rights to The Entire History of You and it seems like it's going to be adapted into a movie. That's exciting because I feel like he'd be great in that role--but most of the episodes are complete movies in themselves. I'm not sure what you'd change or even add.

Do you have any familiarity with Dr. Who? If not I'd give at least a few of the classics a shot before starting. I can't give you specific episodes off the top of my head, but at least the first episodes, when the Daleks are introduced, are worth watching and important for getting an idea of what the Daleks are all about. Then, Tom Baker episodes are worth a shot.

Maybe there's a reference out there but the introduction of many of the foes is a good place to start:
Daleks/Davros
Cybermen
Silurians
Sontarans
The Master

There are more but those are the big ones for me that started before the current series bagan

Thank you for your thoughts, I will let u know again which is my overall favourite after watching all 3 seasons... so far it's episode 2 / season 1.

BTW episode 3 is such a great idea conceptually, it would make a GREAT movie IMO.

Twin Peaks. (season 1 & half of season 2)

Yes yes yes. I can't wait for the miniseries that's coming to showtime. I think Lynch is directing all the episodes? So great.

Yup can't wait, it's gonna be EPIC this time around hopefully with less input from the network like last time when they pressured him to reveal the killer half way through the 2nd season.

It would be interesting to see how Lynch re-create the "feel" of Twin Peaks 20+ years later.
