"Al Jefferson thinks he’s finally figured out the NBA game. “Hey, it’s taken me eight years to realize that if I pass the ball outside and guys hit open shots, it helps free me up,” Jefferson. “I guess better late than never.” Yahoo! Sports"

Got that off hoopshype - nba rumors this morning.

Al has played well lately, no doubt. I'm interested to see how he does against better competition. I'm also interested so see if his skills can be utilized in a better way, because I'm convinced the dump-it-to-Al-down-the-stretch-of-close-games idea is ****.

If I were the GM, I'd make Al 6th man of the year. He would play 28 min a game, and wouldn't close games. I'd see that he makes rough on-the-floor chemistry with my other talent, who deserve a chance to start.

Basically, I see in him what Coach Thib sees in Boozer: rare offensive talent, poor defender, good guy. Let my owner and GM pay him whatever they want, but I'm here to coach defense and win close games. Jefferson has 8 years of evidence showing he doesn't do those things, so why belly ache over it?

I think that Al can become a great closer, if he learns how to pass out of the double team very well in late game situations. Think of the Miami game; al draws seriou attention in the paint, so if he can pass out right before a double comes, it can leave players like millsap, Harris or Hayward wide open. He's much too skilled offensively to not have him in late game situations. His defense is a definite work in progress, though.
