What's new

Big Al to Phoenix

Atleast put "idea" in the thread title. Numb nut.

We really should be able to edit thread titles. But like Beantown says, either put "idea", "suggestion", or at the minimum, a ? there so that nobody gets the idea that it's news.

Jazz FO and coaches like Al. He may get traded, but it will take something that has significant potential to upgrade this team. I won't be surprised if nothing happens and I bet the Jazz are not actively shopping him. They are fine going into the season with the 4 man rotation.

We'd need to at least get back a serviceable big in return, or be able to sign one as a FA. Everyone keeps talking about a logjam at the 4/5. Last season Favors could barely play 20 before getting into foul trouble and Kanter was out of gas after 15, looking completely winded and lost at times.

So we trade Jefferson for picks and then one of the 3 remaining bigs misses games. Chances are, all will miss a few games here and there. There aren't too many players who play all 82, and I'm not just talking about the Boozer's and AK's of the league. So then what? You rely on Evans for 30 mins at PF? Or you go out and get a Collins or Elson to fill in and basically forfeit those games?

Or how about this scenario: Jefferson is traded and Millsap's agent demands $12M/per or says Paul will go elsewhere, knowing the Jazz will probably have to agree since they only have 2 bigs and need a third very good one to play 30 mins (96 total minutes / 3 = 32 each). Jazz call Paul's bluff, he gets pissed and does move along and the Jazz then comb through the FA dregs to find a replacement.

I think the Jazz try to sign Millsap to an extension. If he won't sign at $10M, then you trade Paul. If he does sign, trade away Big Al at the deadline when that expiring contract will have maximum value. Or, worst-case scenario, if only undesirable long-term contracts are offered in return, then he walks and the Jazz have loads of cap space to spend. Or they do what they did with Boozer, do a sign-and-trade and get a trade exception for Al next summer.
