Big Al Working Hard

I like Al Jefferson. I hear and read that we should trade him for nothing and how he doesn’t fit in on our team. I disagree with those opinions of Al. I don’t get the train of thought that we should trade him for a trade exception and a 2nd rounder. I recognize that it took awhile for Al to fit in on the court, the offense tended to stop when the ball was past to him. I do wonder though how much of that though was the offense not being executed correctly? I wonder how much of that was do to the issues off the court that lead to Sloan retiring and Deron being traded?

I like Al because the first interview he gave after being traded to Utah he couldn’t stop smiling. Al kept saying the right things of how great it was to be in Utah. I like Al because he promised to get a win in LA and instantly took on the hate that we fans carry for the Lakers. I like Al because he is a back to the basket player and a low post threat in a league where that is slowly becoming a dying art. I like players who want to be here, who cares about his teammates and wants to win, I saw all of that in Al this past year.

Another reason I like Al is because of this video. I love that every report we’ve heard about him from Coach Corbin (during pre-draft workouts), from the Jazz beat writers and from other Jazz players (Jeremy Evans on The Fan) talk about how Al is working hard this summer. In a summer where players are fighting owners over millions of dollars, we haven’t heard a complaint from Al about money, we haven’t heard him say he will play in a different country we just hear of him working harder than he’s ever worked and improving his game.

One thing I noticed is that he has a smile on his face pretty much the whole time. That's telling. He seems to be enjoying his work out.

Hmm... it'd be more interesting to see a video of Karl Malone's workouts.

I bet there weren't a lot of smiles in the muggy old barn...

I don't think "Diana" understands the point that she's making here.

And of the things that are easiest to blow smoke about, "working out hard" is really high on the list for someone that's not clearly in terrible shape. We hear this every offseason about almost every player. In fact, we heard it a lot last year about Jefferson as well.

This is going to be a long stoppage of hoops and it's mind-numbing. So I like anything that crops up that we can all chew on, but only results will tell us anything about what he's doing right now. Particularly how he plays and produces in transition.

Thanks for correcting my grammar. I wrote the quick post late at night last night, so I appreciate it, I corrected it on my post. The only point I was trying to make was maybe there were other reasons that Al didn't pass when he received the ball, besides being a black hole.

I agree that all players say and it is reported by others that they are working hard. We have heard a lot about Al this off season and his workouts at P3. I was just happy to see a video of it and thought other Jazz fans would like to see it too. I added a quick commentary on Al since we haven't had any news in a long time and I wanted to write something happy.

Thanks Prodigy for posting it on Jazzfanz.

Big Al knows he needs to work hard to keep his spot in the rotation. His urge to survive on our team is no more selfish than those players wanting their moolah. But the main concern I've always had with Big Al is how he's keeping his spirits up. Naturally this team is going to bring him down. Nobody let him have six feet of rope ala Andy Dufraine.

Like it or not, Big Al will be the first option of the team this upcoming season when/if the lockout ends so it is great for us fans to know he is working out hard.

Craig What the heck are you talking about

Its unlikley that Kanter or Favors will ever be better then Jefferson get your head out of your butt hes the best player we got a guy that can dominate in the post and score at will. Their is more to be desired with his passing ability and defense but the guy seems dedicated to improving.

By the way, this is Favors working out at P3 and some comments from the P3 people:

While Derrick Favors is one of the most powerful athletes P3 has tested and trained, his lack of hip mobility/stability and his quad dominant movement patterns limit his ability to explosively apply force into the ground in multiple planes, decelerate, set up positive ground angles and change direction...This complex addressed these issues, specifically in the lateral plane...

Al Jefferson is a beast. He is one of the most dominant lowpost scorers in the game today and he seems to be legit in his desire to become a more well-rounded, team player. Why so many Jazz fans want to put him on the first plane out of town is another example of just how dumb Utah's fanbase is.
