Bill Simmons & Jalen Rose Jazz season preview

And Ironically I'm Turkish...
The breakdown is amazingly good.
You can also just stay with "N S"

The real challenge is Ömer Aşık though... Everybody knows him like Asheeeeek but It's no way near.

I've just accepted the challenge today as today's Turkish lesson.

"Ea" as in earn, "mar" as in marry... Ea-mar
a as in barn, sh as in shot,
Now comes the tricky part, because there is no such sound in English as I might describe with a word: pronounce "eeeer" as you forget what you would say and trying to remember it, but for a short time like "eer" do not pronounce the "r"
If anyone speaks Russian our letter "ı" not "i" pronounced like the letter ы
and finish it with k like lick

we get: a-sh-eer-k

Pronounce all together: Ea-mar A-sh-eer-k = Ömer Aşık

His surname Aşık means "the Bard" BTW

Just tell them to watch a Hedo talk if you wanna define "ı".

Like West Valley City, West Jordan, Magna, Ogden or the Granite district in Salt Lake? Could go on, but will stop there. EVERY metropolitan areas has its problems. And don't even get me started on the miscreants that inhabit St. George!

True, but its no where near as bad as bigger cities. The bigger a city gets, the worse it gets. That's why we don't need more people here.

Look at this team. You have 8 lottery picks on this team. You have 5 top 10 picks on this team. You have three top 3 picks on this team. 67% of this team was taken in the lottery.

Sounds like the gm did a good job to me

The fact that we didn't make the playoffs last year is pathetic.

I would put this on the coach rather than the gm

I guess it just depends on what you like, and what you think is fun.

I think the biggest knocks that Utah takes is for it being too religious and unalcohol friendly. Which are the two things that couldn't be more untrue. There are plenty of people who aren't religous that live here, and there is plenty of alcohol here. I've never got what the fuss is all about. You can get just as drunk here as you can anywhere else. Hell, anyone can get wasted just eating at there local AppleBees.

I guees I'm just missing something. Last time I checked I can go down to the liquor store and get as strong as alcohol that I want, no problem. Just because it isn't open in the middle of the night, doesn't mean I can plan ahead and buy plenty for the night.

The alcohol issues in Utah are way overblown.

I agree with all this

outside of seeing a Jazz game there isn't much nightlife to go around. Most restaurants close around here at like 10 PM. Nightlife doesn't always mean "strippers and blow" but man, it can get hard trying to find a decent non-chain place to eat at or something to do other than a movie after 8 PM in Utah.

That being said I hope clairvoyant Bill is right. And I won't be following the Jazz that closely this season because of their offseason moves.

Untrue...
When I was single (and young) I would hit up a different club each night of the week and party late into the night.
Lumpys, port o call, green street, bliss, allure, habits, liquid joes.
And now there are a bunch of new clubs that I always hear about.

Utah has nightlife (saw kanter at huka bar, boozer at lumpys, and dwill at bliss)

Easy.

Ohm-er Ay-sick

Eeee-nus Can-ter

These turkish names are easy.

American pronunciations ftw.

That's how I say em.... easy peasy

That isn't true. The top ten cities in violent crime per capita are:

Flint, Detroit, Oakland, Bridgeport, New Orleans, Cleveland, St. Louis, Jackson, Baltimore, Newark.

Of that list, I only count 4 as "major metropolitan areas." Five if you throw in Oakland, though adding in SF and Berkeley with it makes the rate drop significantly.

Not on that list: the LA area and suburbs or New York City.

In fact NYC is the tenth SAFEST city in America.

I find it funny how he is bashing the GM for so many lotto picks while fiercly advocating intentional tanking for a lottery pick.

I'm bashing one GM for making bad picks and lauding another in hopes he makes good picks.

I'm not saying Favors and Kanter suck, or Lindsey will ship them out first chance he gets. I'm just saying Lindsey isn't married to KOC's players and don't be surprised if Kanter or Favors is gone next year. We are under new leadership now.

I'm also saying that this year will write KOC's legacy. He built a solid foundation, but if the year ends and Favors is gone and Kanter only averaged 12 and 7, then KOC won't be remembered as a good GM.

Also, Burke is Lindsey's guy. Corbin most likely won't be here next year. If Burke blossoms or fails, Lindsey will get the credit/blame.

But how many of those are bigger than slc?

Well damn man when did the jury come back on the C5? I was unaware that they had their chance already.

lindsay will be ok anyway

it was a weak draft and when you have a chance at "the best" pg in the draft - you take that risk, even if you didn't had an workout with the guy

So you would feel safer on the streets of NY than Salt Lake?

Have you ever been outside of Utah?

I lived in SLC for 15 years, NYC for 8. Never had anything even remotely unsafe happen to me in either city, but NYC was a helluva lot more fun.
