What's new

Bill Simmons & Jalen Rose Jazz season preview

Being familiar with SLC or NY over the other would play into that.

Especially in NY. You could really end up in a bad place in NY if you arent careful.

I can't believe I'm even having this conversation

You guys win. Utah is really scary and dangerous, and New York is super safe.

Utah = Thug Life

That all deends on the person. For me NYC holds no real interest. I'd visit it but its meh whatever.

Yeah - to each their own. And the outdoor rec that Utah has is unparalleled as far as I'm concerned. But when it comes to clubs vs. red rock hiking, I think we all know what's more appealing to Jalen.

No one is saying Utah is unsafe, Hack. I'm saying that Utah's safety isn't a result - either by cause or correlation - of its population size.

Good thing I never said that. Over dramatic for the win!

All I am saying is that a persons familiarity with their surrondings plays into their feelings of safety.

What would you base it off of. Crime in Cedar increases as a result of I-15

Think there isn't any silver bullet factor, but a combination: poverty rates seem to be a major factor at play, quality of the public education system, police tactics (read Gladwell's Tipping Point - he talks about why NYC is significantly safer than Chicago and attributes it surprisingly to subway vandalism arrests), drug use (which doesn't always follow poverty as some might think)

Clairvoyant Bill is tarded. Tyrone Corbin will lead the Utah to the promised land.

I would be thrilled with that. I'm doubtful but I am willing to give him this year to show us what he can do with the youth.

Untrue...
When I was single (and young) I would hit up a different club each night of the week and party late into the night.
Lumpys, port o call, green street, bliss, allure, habits, liquid joes.
And now there are a bunch of new clubs that I always hear about.

Utah has nightlife (saw kanter at huka bar, boozer at lumpys, and dwill at bliss)

I didn't say we didn't have a nightlife. What I said was that is uncommon for restaurants around here to be open past 10 PM. Personally, I'm not much of a bar crawler and I hate alcohol. But it is tough to eat later in the evening around here, and that is probably true for most cities (I mean outside of LA, NY, and Miami, most cities probably can't compare favorably in the "night life" scene.)

So you would feel safer on the streets of NY than Salt Lake?

Have you ever been outside of Utah?

One nice thing about Reno, crime is very low. Very little gang activity. Worst thing that happens here is redneck domestic disturbances and biker gangs shooting up casinos. I swear biker gangs must have a lobotomy as a requisite to join.
