Very true. The catch is that the prosecution has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Zimmerman murdered him and did not act out of self defense. To me it is reasonable to assume that Zimmerman acted out of self defense given the extent and location of his injuries. You can say that ZImmerman did them to himslef or whatever. You may even be right. But it is not beyond a reasonable doubt.

Zimmerman brought the gun to the fight before the fight. He lied about what he was doing. He tracked down a kid that was already terrified. Zimmerman created the danger and the fear by his own actions. long before the fight started.

For the most part its all fairly public, I don't think there is a whole lot of secret stuff that they are withholding from everyone. I think everyone agrees Zimmerman made some bad choices that if they had been different this whole thing never would have happened. Trayvon also made some bad choices that if he hadn't this wouldn't have happened. I just find it borderline impossible for a jury to convict Zimmerman of 2nd degree murder, maybe manslaughter but not 2nd degree. They evidence shows there was a fight and Zimmerman was hit and he fired and killed trayvon, sounds like self defense to me. Probably shouldn't have shot him, but he also shouldn't have had his face punched.

Pretty much how I feel, and I'll admit I was wrong a few times here as well. Except I place most of the blame at Zimmerman for not minding his own business and getting this ball rolling in the first place.

That being said, there are two things I find curious about this. One is who started the fight. All we have is Zimmerman's word and it could be right, though I still just doubt he was just minding his own business and got sucker punched. The problem I do find is that when you're the only one who can tell the story and know what happened, you can make the situation appear in your favor. But maybe it did happen as he said. The second is at what point can you start a fight, back off from it (say it was him screaming in that 911 call) and then shoot someone and claim self defense?

I originally started defending Zimmerman based on people saying it was a hate crime, I didn't think it was a hate crime, it may have been a crime, but I doubt it was a hate crime. It seems everyone has moved on past the whole hate crime thing and are now arguing whether it was simply a crime. It is not illegal to follow someone through a neighborhood, it is not illegal to defend yourself from a threat (both trayvon and zimmerman both felt threatened I'm sure), it's not illegal to use deadly force if you feel your life is at risk. So now I'm still leaning towards it being self defense, albeit Zimmerman probably jumped the gun (pun intended) on using deadly force, he can still claim self defense and be found innocent.
