Blow it up?

Yeah, that means you have a boner for rookies. Nothing wrong with that, but for people who enjoy watching good basketball disagree.

And it's not like Tatum couldn't get ample minutes with Hayward. You know they started Tatum/Brown/Hayward, right? They were all going to get a lot of minutes. It's the bench guys who are getting more minutes because of the Hayward injury. But maybe you think watching Daniel Theiss and Semi Ojeleye is more exciting than Hayward, cuz you know, rookies.

Not just the minutes. He's a more important piece without Haywad, which will accelerate his development.

Here's an actual proposal that could make sense at some level.

Exum and a draft pick for Jabari Parker. Both are career injured players. If the bucks aren't going to resign Jabari then essentially they give the Jazz the RFA status for a player they don't plan to resign and they get a draft pick out of it and first dibs on the Exum sweepstakes (ha ha ha). That's not blowing it up, but it's hunting for a game changer with the pieces with have. The Jazz have their point guards in Rubio and Mitchell (who has slotted well into that role. Exum would be more attractive healthy of course, but so would Jabari.

Burks, Hood, Favors, and Exum plus a draft pick for Anthony Davis. Unrealistic pipe dream, but at least I made a proposal here.

Favors for Jahlil Okafor and an asset? Philly has lots of assets. Jahlil would stretch the floor alongside Gobert, but he really hasn't done anything in the league. Our defense drops off, but maybe we pull covington out of the deal as well? Furkan? I would do Favors for Saric straight up, but Philly loves their players too much.

Harrison Barnes anyone (though I doubt the Mavs would trade him).

I mean, there just isn't a lot of game changing talent to realistically go out and grab at this point in the season that would make us better.

To me, prime doesn't translate to a span of years where the player will be his best. It means, at which age said player will play his best. I'm saying this, because IMO, we haven't seen the best or Rudy.

https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/2aa0r2/study_at_what_age_an_nba_player_reaches_his_peak/

This is a pretty cool read some dude put together about NBA players and their prime age in the NBA. Some interesting things come to mind when reading it.

That says the average peak age is 27 Years & 2 months. The average is 5 years into the league. Rudy is in his 5th year, he is 25 1/2 years old. I hope we havent seen his best year but he is entering the time period where we are going to see his best over the next few years before he starts to decline.

Prime is a period of time where a player is playing their best, not just their peak year. The peak should be in the middle of the prime.

Either way you want to define it, he still is a bad match to put around a bunch of rookies who will be getting good in 5-6 years when Gobert is declining.

Um, "blowing it up" would mean getting rid of key players to get younger. I doubt DL goes for a tank. You risk offending Rudy just as you did Hayward and he signs elsewhere just when you think you're ready to contend.

Yes, I'm all for trading Favors, Burks, Hood and JJ. But what value do those guys have? Favs maybe gets Utah a late 1st from a contender. Hood might get Utah a protected pick. Burks has little value at his price. Utah might even have to GIVE a 2nd-round pick to dump his additional year. JJ might get a second-round pick from a playoff team.

If I were DL, I'd try to package Hood and next year's pick for a very good (like fringe all-star) player at the deadline. Mitchell is ready to start at the 2. Go for a primary scoring option at the 3 or 4.

Did people watch the game last night? Why are we blowing it up? I knew we'd have some we don't need Hood stuff, but maybe we should let this breathe.

Again, GS didn't seem to have the trajectory they have now. Imagine if they had traded curry and blew it up.

Pump. Da. Brakes.

If Hayward was any indication, we need to go all in with Rudy. Now.

In my opinion this is what I see of the roster and it is still very early in the season

Rudy is the anchor of this and and should be kept and built around. He is a franchise player and the cornerstone

DM is also a future frnchise player and the best scforing option we have at the moment but as of yet I am not sure if he is a batman or a robin.

Rubio is an outlier for me because I want to see what he can do over a whole season but he could be a future piece but I am concerned about his turn overs but those could go down as he learns his teammates better. I also dont like the chemistry with him and rudy yet.

Exum I think you should keep him just because he should come pretty cheap and he actually has the chance of being very cheap on the back end of his deal if he continues to improve that way he has shown.

Neto who cares about the 3rd PG if he is cheap he is worth the money

Hood is a wild card because I just dont know what we are going to get from him day in and day out he is so frustrating inconsistent it is maddening. IT will all come to what he wants in the off season because he is 3rd or 4th fiddle on a championship team right now. I would look at trying to use him to bring in a bigger impact type of player.

Ingles I hope retires in Utah and that he is here the full of his contract. He doesnt seem like a player that will ask for a ton of money and 5 to 7 mil after this contract and he would be a great bench player.

Sefelosha is a GREAT bench player that brings it every night and he is worth keep around for a few more years but if an offer was made to a team that needed him for the playoffs i would listen

Favors for me is on the hot seat and I am not liking what I have seen this year. I would look to find a good trade partner with his expiring contract and see what could be brought in. I want to love this guy but I can't.

Udoh is a keeper and if he will stay for what he is getting paid right now I would love to keep him here.

Bradley i wouldn't complain if he was used to bring in a better piece,

Jerebko he is cheap

Things to consider that could potentially help the Jazz

There will be a number of teams that will be trying to shed salary to sign superstars next summer. Some might start early if their season are sucking to get a higher draft pick to pair with they superstars. (IE Lakers)

There will also be teams that will lose said superstars and being looking at a rebuild (IE Cavs)

There will also be teams that just are average and over the tax and looking to shed some salary

DM currently has 35/31 FG/3pt shooting splits. How is anyone saying he is our best scoring option?

I think he is the guy on the team that can consistently create his own shot... it didn't fall for 6 games... then started falling. I need a bigger sample size.

Now that we have two superstars is it time to shed some weight and go for the championship gamble?

Favors, Burks, Hood and maybe even Rubio... gone. Accumulate picks, get some young studs/free agents. Shoot for title in 2-4 years.

I don't know if the OP is trolling, but I agree with the position.

The team as currently constituted doesn't get out of the West.

This is true of all teams except GSW

Cause Rubio and Mitchell going for 60 and 3 assists aint a sustainable thing...

Neither is Hood being awful and Ingles not shooting well.

We need some reconfiguring but blowing it up right now is not wise. Like if a good deal for Favs came in then go ahead and take it... there are deals I'd consider for Hood... they'd have to be pretty damn good though.
