What's new

Boise St. VS VT

I liked the helmets, especially VT's with that matte black finish. looks pretty badass. great game, i can see these teams potentially matched up in the orange bowl. even if boise goes undefeated they won't play for NC, not with the schedule they have.

I agree. Any 1 loss Big 12 or SEC team will get in over BS based on their schedules.

I watched the majority of the game but have to say the 1st Qtr VT stunk up the joint and it pissed me off thinking it was about to be a blow out, but to their credit at least they didn't roll over and die and made a game of it. In the end VT put themselves in to big of a hole by their all their mistakes in that first Qtr to beat a good BST team.

VaTech probably played the better game, but had those critical errors in the first quarter that dug a hole. They compounded that in the third by going for 2 too early, and then going conservative in the 4th. To Boise State's credit, they made the drive when they needed it and made some great plays. I hate them.

Why does BSU schedule teams like Toledo or Wyoming. They have 10 cream puffs on their schedule already.

Most likely because they don't get a fair shake when trying to schedule bigger names. They probably get offered 2 for 1's....1 and done....stuff like that. Who knows, maybe they just don't care that much because they have already proven that winning regardless of competition is the key to getting into the BCS. Their title hopes don't really hinge on themselves, they have to hope that no BCS teams go undefeated as well.

Actually Boise went undefeated a few times and missed out on a BCS game.

Not only those teams but 1 loss teams from virtually all BCS conferences will get the national championship game over Boise. They have little to no shot. Their as high in the ranking's as they are likely to get.

I would say that the ACC, Big East, and possibly the Pac-10 Champions if they have one lost and BSU is undefeated BSU would get in over those three conferences. But honestly who the hell knows.

VT has the coolest uni's I've ever scene in college football.
And the lamest team name. Hokeys? Do they even know what that means?

All the big guys are afraid to schedule them. Getting beat by a WAC team is too humiliating. And they always beat the big dogs.

Well it's lose lose. Florida or Alabama plays BSU and wins: They were supposed to win. They lose: They are embarrassed. That and the size of the stadium in Boise and payout for a visiting team sucks so nobody wants to play in Boise.

If they want respect, a big if, they need to just play road games at bigger schools and skip playing the likes of Wyo & Toledo.

You need to have a balance of home and road. You can't start the season with 4 road games.

True but Utah has been willing to take trips to Michigan twice and BYU went to Texas to play Oklahoma. If your Boise and your stadium sucks with a tacky blue field and you city is a pain to get to. Then to get respect they need to go out and play the big boys once in a while. I don't think they will or should have a shot in hell at the National championship with that schedule. There are ways to make those trips work. But Boise is unwilling to do so.

Are you sure that Boise doesn't try? Other schools have to accept when you try to schedule them.

I contend that these "big" schools are afraid of getting beaten.

I don't believe they have played in a single "money game". Other schools are able and willing while in lesser conferences. I have to assume that if Boise wanted them it would be possible to find a taker. If they are demanding a return trip there is no incentive to the bigger school. None it's only lose lose for them as somebody else pointed out.

Wasn't it just last year that BSU held a public campaign trying to fill a spot in their schedule and no BCS teams would take them?

I remember laughing at that because I thought it was so ridiculous. Those kinds of games only come out of relationships that have built between AD's over a significant period of time. Just because Boise is finally ready to play the big boys doesn't mean they should come beating down Boise's door. For years, Boise purposely built weak schedules in order to go for those perfect seasons, rather than testing themselves against BCS schools. Fresno had to take rip-off deals with BCS schools for nearly a decade before they started getting return games in Fresno. Countless times they would play the away leg of their agreement and then they would get bought out time and again and never come to Fresno. Only now have they began to see games like Cincinnati and Illinois at home. Potentially Ole Miss next season.

Over the past few years, Boise finally decided to start testing their program against BCS schools and that's why they're beginning to see games like Oregon at home (last year) and a neutral site game with V-Tech. It takes some time and they have to swallow some pride. That's just the life of a mid-major program for the most part.

As far as my feeling on this game, I was hoping for Boise to win, even though I pretty much hate them. I think them being in the NC picture is a good thing for CFB. Until Fresno comes in and finally beats them on the smurf turf this year, anyways.
