Now, we know players tend to gush about their new teammates, whether serious or not, but this is a player who just finished a long run with the point guard generally regarded as the best in the league now, the Jazz’ Deron Williams.

And then you see how hard he works and how serious he is. And now he’s got more guys to work with, to pass to.”

Did anyone catch any of the game last night? Rose looked like a ballhog and has very limited actual PG skills. He is a ballhandling 2 guard in the mode of Brandon Roy.

Shocking news. What do you expect him to say? Deron is the best when he's playing for the Bulls and with an arguable Top 3 PG in the league? Even if he thinks D-Will is superior, it would make things awkward if he didn't suggest D-Rose was better.

I was actually more impressed with Derick than I thought I would be on Team USA, but he is a point guard in name only. More of a Dwayne Wade type cat. Not bad, but not somebody that is going to win titles unless he can find himself a Shaq.

I agree completely with this. Rose is extremely talented but, as a player, he is much more comparable to Wade than Nash, Deron, Christina, Rondo, or whoever else is deemed to be in the "best point guard" conversation. For some, the mere fact that Rose (or anyone else) is assigned to play the 1 spot "makes" them a " point guard," and for them, a "point guard" who averages 46 points a game with 2.3 assists and 5.6 turnovers is a better "point guard" than a point guard who averages 10 assists, 2 turnovers, and 18 points.

Personally, I judge a point guard, qua point guard, primarily on his "point guard skills," not his ability to dunk, score, or whatever. It's nice if your point guard can dunk and/or score a lot, but guys like Stockton and Nash can be much greater points guards without displaying or exhibiting that ability (even if they have it) than many point guards who do. On the other hand, a PF who couldn't dunk would be suspect, at his position.

Monta Ellis scored 46 points last night and, the way he hogs the ball, might well do it on many more nights. But he is far from bein the best point guard in the league. On the contrary, such habits relegate him to the bottom of the pile, in my book.
