Boris Diaw Traded To Jazz (news, not just proposed trade)

I'm not doing handstands over this move. Diaw is a guy who was unmotivated by Gregg Popovich and was unmotivated by being on a great team. He was constantly out of shape and was repeatedly benched. What kind of influence is that for a young team? I am also not a fan of the fit. The Diaw trade means that we've likely seen the end of either Withey or Pleiss in a Jazz uniform, and whichever one stays won't be in the rotation. That leaves Rudy as the only true center on the roster again and we witnessed how bad the team struggled when Rudy got hurt last year and we were stuck with undersized players at the 4 and 5 for the bulk of the game.

The plus side is that we didn't give up much in this deal, but an unmotivated player who's constantly overweight doesn't excite me.

He's been the same player for the last 4 years. You know what you're going to get out of him.

If you're 6'8 and pushing three bills in the NBA and consistently getting benched because of it, you are lacking motivation.

He is what he is.

His last 4 seasons with the Spurs he played:
75
79
81
76

That's a lot of games for a guy who is "consistently getting benched".

And he ESPN list him as 250 lbs.

1. Depth will not be an issue this year. This might be the deepest Jazz team ever.

Gobert/Diaw/Withey
Favors/Lyles
Hayward/Johnson/Ingles
Hood/Burks/Mack
Hill/Exum/Neto

Adding Hill, Johnson, and Diaw plus getting back Exum and Burks will be huge for depth. If everyone is healthy, 3 main guys from last years team will not see the floor (Mack, Neto, and Ingles). Even Withey played big minutes at times. Those guys are now our 3rd stringers and, if everything goes well, will not see the floor this season.

I actually hope Ingles still sees regular minutes (not heavy, maybe ~10 a game). He is still a very good three point shooter, the problem last year was he had to do a lot more due to injuries/lack of depth. Now we can use him as a strictly spot up shooter, which I think could be very valuable.

I want him to go to p3... Just want to see the athletic testing results and see if I can beat it.

I like this move... We are so much deeper. I think we need to cut Johnson and move off of tibors deal if possible. I think we should use those spots for developing players. If we move Mack could open up another spot but I wouldn't move him for nothing.

Jazz going to be a top 5 team in West.

I was thinking the Kings might be interested in Mack. They really only have Darren Collison at the point guard spot at the moment, and he is in some legal strife as i understand it. Plus they are the Kings so we could get some value out of it.

Only true center on the roster? You forget we have a 7' Jeff Withey and a 7'3 Tibor Pleiss? HOw does the Diaw trade signal the end of Withey/Pleiss? Last time I checked they are both under contract. It's not like we need to cut anyone to save money.

Your takes on this are bad.

I think he's one of those guys that just wants to start a discussion. He can't possibly believe this stuff

I love the trade. It cost the Jazz pretty much nothing and gives another veteran presence to the team in a position of need.

The Kings did sign Garrett Temple but appeared to be in the market for an experienced point guard.

Sweet. Can't wait till the season starts!

Because I can count roster spots. You can only have 15.

Likely normal rotation (in no specific order)
1) Gobert
2) Favors
3) Hayward
4) Hill
5) Hood
6) Exum
7) Burks
8) JJ
9) Lyles
10) Diaw
11) Ingles

That leaves 4 spots for a combination of
Mack, Neto, Bolomboy, Pleiss, Withey. There's no reason for them to cut Neto or Mack given their performances last year, their cheap contracts, and the uncertainty around Exum's recovery and whether Hill will resign next year. That leaves two spots. Unlikely they would give both to two Center's when Bolomboy is younger and provides more upside. Thus my conclusion that one is probably gone and the other is out of the rotation.

Bolomboy isnt making the team. He isnt good. The team didnt even like him that much, we traded down from 42 because we saw the pick and said "Nah, **** this, let's get some $$$ to butter up our owner".

*Mack might get traded, I doubt we cut him though. I also doubt we cut Pleiss because the Jazz never cut guaranteed contracts*

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Neto was sent to ATL in the Hill trade.

I guess we will find out Thursday. That Lindsey Press conference ought to be a good one.
