What's new

Boris Diaw

Why would it mean this? Do we even have the money to sign him?

"Utah can structure the Thabo Sefolosha signing in two ways. The Jazz could continue to stay over the cap and use part of their full mid-level exception. Doing so would preserve the $3.3M bi-annual exception and also have Utah with $3.2M of the full mid-level remaining. The Jazz could waive Boris Diaw (July 15 guaranteed date) and use room to sign Sefolosha. Signing with room would see Utah with $6M in cap space while also having the $4.3M room mid-level exception." - Bobby Marks ESPN

Not saying this has anything to do with Simmons, just putting it here because it explains where we're at cap-wise.

I'm just glad to see the Jazz do the classy thing - 1 they've been honest with Diaw, and 2 they didn't drag it out for in him just in case there are other NBA options for him, if not at least he knows the Jazz are a classy organization -

Right... he was released 3 days early. It was a classy move. We could have held on to the last second to release him, but we didn't.

I loved Boris. I think he was fun to have as part of the franchise, but he was getting up there in age, moving slower every game, and our team ball was sacrificed for ISO too much to make him valuable. I will miss the 'French Connection' much more than the Boston Flee Party.

Too bad the Jazz couldn't get anything for him in a trade, if true.

It doesn't really matter, we have the cap room waiving him gives us. That is just as fungible as a trade. We will have cap room until Jingles officially signs.

Pretty sure by waiving Boris (and renouncing Withey) Jazz can now sign Thabo, Udoh and Jerebko with cap space, bringing them to payroll of $99m (counting cap holds for Neto and Ingles). Then they make the Ingles deal official, guarantee Neto's contract and go to - $108m. They'd only have the room MLE this season, but could have the full MLE next summer - if they kept these players.

That sounds like the most prudent plan.

Some players you just hate to see go. Diaw drove me nuts with his poor defense and rebounding, but the guy was a class act. Good luck, Diaw.
